Hi all. I'm sure those of you who water fast know what I mean by ketone breath. Since I don't chew gum any more I was wondering what everyone does to get rid of the icky taste when fasting?

Hi there, chewing on some fresh parsley or mint leaf should do the trick

I'm forever brushing my teeth. I go to the bathroom at work and brush my teeth, my gums, the sides of my mouth several times a day if necessary!! when I'm at home - Oil pulling has helped... oh and make sure you are also flossing twice a day... that really helps too. Plaque containing toxins can get caught between your teeth that brushing cannot reach.... so oil pulling and flossing are really important.
I've also chewed on fresh mint or little slices of ginger. but in the business world - sometimes - you need just need to pop a breath mint in your mouth. Most hfs - should carry something for breath.

Unfortunately, there really is nothing you can do to your mouth to keep ketone breath at bay, because the smell isn't coming from your mouth, it's coming from your actual breath. When fat breaks down, it is excreted through your body through your urine and in a gaseous form through your breath. Taking several long, deep breaths every time you think of it will help, or perhaps setting a timer at hour intervals to remind you. The best thing you can do is to make sure to drink a LOT of water, and this will help keep it to a minimum as the ketones will be excreted more through your urine than your breath. And of course this will also support your kidneys that are dealing with a whole lot of ickies being released while you're fasting. :)
Mouth rinsing, tooth brushing and especially tongue scraping will definitely help keep the other form of fasting bad breath--coated tongue--to a minimum, too.
Hope that helps!

Thanks everyone. I have been using little bits of fresh ginger which has been working to get the ick taste out of my mouth for a bit. Thanks for the useful information kris :)
