I'm interested in trying this. Does anyone do it? What results have you had? Do I need to buy a special brush, or can I use a loofah or something?
Thanks x

You should use a natural bristle brush. You can get one at Whole Foods or other health food stores. Do the dry skin brushing in the morning before your shower. Start from the feet and move up the body using long strokes always brushing in the direction of the heart. Then just hop in the shower. It's invigorated and very stimulating to the lymphatics which helps your detox.

Results from dry body brushing? Oh my good! It will rejuvenate your whole body! :)
The skin has two capillary beds, one for nutrition of the skin cells in different layers and the other for temperary regulation.
Skin brushing stimulates both of them. Increase the blood and lymphatic circulation. You'll get rid of dead cells, refresh living cells and stimulate growing of new cells.
See dry skin brushing as a total skin massage or total body acupuncture or acupressure. Beleive it or not, there is a stimulating and balancing effect on your inner organs and glands.
I'll suggest dry body brushing in the morning. Then a warm shower ending with a short cold shower. Don't temperate the last part. Use the coldest tap water available, but shorten the time down to 1 second the first time.
Then your body will tell you what endorphins are... ;)
Just do it! Start tomorrow. For dry skin brushing you can use anything, from your hands to a scrubbing brush. I have used two scrubbing brushes for years, but I think many people will find them a bit too hard in the beginning.
Make it easy, don't try to be perfect. The only important is to build up a habit to do it every time you take a shower.
I deliberatively write ”every time” and not ”every day”, since many raw foodist have found that there is no need any longer for a daily shower.

I vote for buying the brush and getting started! :D They're not that expensive, but to make sure to buy a natural bristle brush. At first it might feel rough, but you will get used to it --- It will make you feel so good!
Happy Brushing!

Hi,
Just a question (really don't want to attack anybody):
Aren't natural bristles made from dead hair (pig's, I guess?)? I mean, since this is supposed to be a "vegan" forum?

No, mine are made out of some kind of cactus fiber.

You're thinking boar bristle hairbrushes. Those would be painful to use on the skin. Body brush bristles are much softer:D

Oh, cool!
I think in that case I'll have to find one for myself! :D
Thanks!!!

I've been dry brushing for about a week and my torso just broke out in a rash of red pumps, around my waist, on my stomach and back. This is the exact same mysterious thing that I got when I first started transitioning to raw! Should I assume then that this is a kind of detox, since I've revved that up with the brushing? I have a stray red bump here and there on my legs and arms, too.
or maybe I need extra moisturizer since I'm doing this in the winter?

How long before you really feel results?
Well, I don't do it consistently. :o So I can't really comment. It really doesn't hurt at all or take much time to do though. Try it out & see for yourself.
Honestly, I have so many different things going on that I wouldn't know if it's due to dry brushing. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii81/outsideanimage/scratchhead.gif
