Hi!
Anyone know what I can do to help my skin? My hands are so dry they are cracking! I put some coconut oil on them last night but it didn't seem to help much!
Please help! They hurt!
Thanks

I wish I could help and offer some advice...mine are doing the same thing. I put all kinds of natural "stuff" on them and nothing. I recently started taking chia and flax seed in my morning smoothies and eating coconut oil...am keeping my cracked fingers crossed that this helps soon~

I've had a little dry skin lately too, but I've been tanning and it doesn't help that my water is chlorinated when I bathe! What works for me is make sure I'm getting good fats, avocado, olive oil, coconut oil, etc. in my diet. As for topicals, olive oil in the shower/bath before you start drying off, when you do dry off just blot. I also bought a product at my local heath food store by Aurbeys Organics called After sun, but I use it as a regular moisturizer as well even when I am not tanning and it's the only thing that soothes my skin. It's a very pure product with a coconut oil base.

I have dry skin too.. It gets worse in the cold weather and if I wash my hands a lot. I put on Kiehl's for the past few days and it seems to help.

I don't have dry skin myself but I know what works when I DO get it (which is normally in the winter or if I get any sunburn):
1. Stop using soap. It removes all traces of any natural oils that your body might be secreting. For washing dishes, use some rubber gloves to keep your hands away from the soap.
2. Try shea butter (you can get raw shea butter at afroeccentric places or on Ebay) it is a heavy moisturizer. Put on a a heavy lather or it at night before bed and than put on some gloves. Sleep that way. Don't wash your hands in the morning.
3. Invest in a shower filter that removes chlorine. The chlorine in water is very drying to your hair and skin. You will notice the difference believe me.
Honestly, chemicals are the main thing that causes our skin to get really dry. That along with weather. People over use things like soap and they don't realize the connect to that and their skin problems. Think twice about what you use on your skin as far as chemicals go and your skin will be alot better!

Thanks for all the advice.
I know it is the weather, it is so cold and dry here, combined with the fact that with six children I constantly have my hands in the water.
Thanks again!

okay -- believe it or not - upping your fat intake - avos and coconut oil will help ... so will oil pulling - it will make your skin really soft!
and... dry brushing
using coconut oil as a moisturizer - or shea butter as suggested....
hope youre feeling better soon!

Queenfluff~
That is great advice and I do all those things. I run a family child care program and wash my hands all day after changing diapers, wiping noses, etc...I think I might buy some medical grade gloves to use (disposables) for diaper changing, etc...not a green thing to do but have to get this under control. It is very painful. Hope you get some relief iamloved~
