Hi everyone. I need advice for my poor bun bun. He's been having some problems. It all started with his eyes, like he had pinkeye. I treated them with herbs & it cleared up.Then he started having problems with his back leg, would be a little wobbly, has flaky skin & is loosing a little hair. he stopped eating his pellets & greens & lost some weight. Now he can't use his right hind leg & falls alot & can not get back up. I make him special meals now of food that he will eat. Sesame & flax seeds ground up,oats, sunflower seeds carrots apples. But he stopped eating veggies:confused: he used to love them. I never liked giving him pellets But he never would fully eat only the other foods I gave him. I took him to the vet today & they said he has neurological damage:confused: & is dehydrated,& has bad teeth!! Wow when did all this happen?? I am floored. Has anyone had this problem with there bunnies? How can I help his immune system be stronger? How can I get him to eat more raw foods??Please any advice!!Thank you !

Oh earthy, im so sorry
Im going to be honest and say usually when a bunny stops eating foods they like and is eating very little/nothing, theyre in big trouble. How bad were his teeth? Did the vet cut them? This could explain him gradually going off food and may also cause absesses in the mouth/infections
"Pinkeye" could have been a serious disorder, especially if now he has neurological damage. Some of my buns eyes flare up from bits of hay getting in them and things, but that will go away without treatment in a day or so
How old is your bunbun? He sounds a lot like an old girl we had, she had so many problems and basically all we could do for her was make her comfortable and give her painkillers
The hair loss and dandruff could very well be a form of mite. Did the vet mention that at all? Easily cured either by spray or injection, or it could just be from his diet/lack of eating
All i can suggest is keep trying different foods, most fruits/veggies are rabbit friendly and you can look them up. If it gets to a point where your rabbit hasnt eaten for a full 24 hours he should go to the vet IMMEDIATELY or his imune/digestive system will shut down for good. The vet may give you some liquid food in a syringe you basically make sure he swallows every day
Its a horrible, horrible thing to go through and i do hope it doesnt get to this stage for him. I know youll keep him loved, keep that offering of healthy healing foods about, and thats all that can be done
Im wishing him a fast recovery. With neuro damage sounds like hes a special casae who needs extra special care, and someone who cares as much as you is exactly what he needs
Good luck

Earthy,
sounds like you have an old bunny who is feeling the effects of his age. One thing I always did for my bunny was keep apple tree branches in her cage, make sure they are organic and not sprayed with anything, but they eat the bark and there is a mineral in there they need, I can't come up with the name of it right now, also the chewing helps keep their teeth down. Bunny teeth are constatly growing and they need lots of hard things to chew the keep them from becomming a problem.
also a salt/mineral block not just a salt lick
and you have to make sure she has acess to and is drinking fresh water.
I wish you and your bunny the best.

also I don't see you mention hay in the above? he has to have lots of fresh hay. I had 1 bunny and used to buy my hay at the feed store in horse size bales, one would last about 3 months, she ate a lot of hay and of course some of it became bedding, but they need that roughage.

Hi & thank you. My little bun bun was not seeming to be very well this morning. The vet called back & said his blood tests were not very good & that we had one sick bunny. My already broken heart broke more when the vet said renal failure,& possibly E.Cuniculi. And he's anemic, his wh. blood count is very low & some other not good news.So I had to tell my kids that he's real sick & they cried & asked if he would get all better. So I've been thinking all last night what to do.I made him nettle & dandelion tea & give it to him in a syringe. He gulps it up! So yeah! I can get him hydrated now.I soaked sunflower seeds & made a milk with carrot juice & he loved that. I've been doing that all day. He seems to have perked up a bit!! Now I need to get some green juice in him. He has not eaten hay for a while,he just stopped,I have been worried about that to. He has an absecessed tooth. Not sure what to do. This sure is tuff. Anymore suggestions??
