I only had Bragg All-Purpose Seasoning and the recipe for Flax Crackers in Alissa's book called for Bragg Liquid aminos. I called the man at the health food store to ask if they were the same thing. He said "yes". But now I am wondering if maybe they are different and that is why I don't like the crackers? I usually like so many things and don't think of myself as a "fussy" person, but these are not good! Any comments on this?

Braggs liquid aminos is a soy type product. Here (http://ebmhost1.ebm.bestsoftwarehost.com:846/IW_products.m4p.pvx?;products_no_tree?company=LFP) is a listing of Bragg products. Was yours a liquid, did it taste like soy? I usually use namu shoyu which is a raw soy sauce when it calls for braggs but I've never heard of 'all purpose seasoning'.

It is the same.
Some of an author's recipes tend to use too much Braggs or too much Nama Shoyu. I've learned to cut them at least in half and then tasting to see if I want more.

I work at a small health food store & we have both:

Liquid aminos = brown liquid like soy sauce

All purpose seasoning = dried herb sprinkles in a shaker bottle - not the same thing.

Hope this helps!

Hi again Ama. I am from Ontario, Canada, and maybe this is why you haven't seen this product. The bottle is actually a little 180 ml spray bottle of liquid soy. The ingredients listed are soybeans and purified water (no preservatives, etc. etc.) When Alissa's recipes call for Bragg Liquid Aminos are you saying I could substitute namu shoyu for them all? I wonder if the one I have is raw? I wish I'd liked the flax crackers though. I need something sweet or chewy for supper! And I'm a bit tired. Oh well, I've lost 5 1/2 lbs since beginning this on Saturday and generally I feel fabulous compared to last week! Thanks again.

That's not but if you google Bragg's all Purpose Seasoning, all the liquid stuff comes up ~ which is what she used, it seems now.

Yep... you can substitute namu shoyu for braggs. Not all recipes you make will be winners. I've made some that everyone raves about and I just didn't like it. You just have to try different things out and see what you like. For example, I don't care for an overly macadamia taste. Some recipes like the alfredo call for a lot of macadamia nuts and knowing that they are too strong for me I use half cashews and half macadamia. Same with pie crusts, I must prefer cashews over macadamia nut but it's all personal preference and you'll learn what you like and don't like with time. The first few months will be a HUGE learning experience and you're going to have failed recipes so just dust yourself off and start fresh! Many times if a recipe makes a lot and I'm weary that I won't like it I'll halve or quarter the recipe. It works most of the time but sometimes you get a real winner and wish you made the whole thing LOL! Have fun!

just a little info to add: nama shoyu has wheat (gluten) in it and braggs has soy. We use Bragg due to 2 dc having a gluten allergy. just my 2 cents.

Great point Zaphirah. I always noticed more congestion with wheat products and today I am thinking about using some sprouted soft wheat berries in a recipe (forget which one) and I'll see how I feel. I will likely get the right kind of Bragg's. Thanks for the input - I appreciate all your comments.

Ama, thanks for the advice. You guys are awesome. This is all so much fun. I feel like a kid in a candy store!? I will halve the recipes when possible - that is what I did with the broccoli soup last night. Is it possible to blend too long in the VitaMix? I did it for about 30 secs. and the soup was nothing but foam. I ate half of it as I knew it was so healthy and I like broccoli, but don't care for "foam" much. Cumin is also questionable - could taste it for quite a while. I will try mixing the nuts. I really appreciate your encouraging words. Have a good day!
