View Full Version : Calcium?

I just set up an account on nutridiary.com (this is how you can tell I'm procrastinating), and it says that I'm not getting nearly enough calcium.
I know I shouldn't allow this site the final word, but I also wouldn't know what signs to look for in my own body that I'm not getting enough calcium - until I'm 50 and my hip snaps...
Just for my peace of mind - can you tell me about your raw sources of calcium?

If you're worried about it, you can just add more greens...parsley & kale are good. I use green smoothies to get most of my calcium.
Best wishes,

Almonds, figs, hulled sesame seeds and seaweed are other good calcium sources.
Also, you may need less calcium on raw because people eating high protein diets (like most SAD eaters) actually lose more calcium than people on lower protein diets (like raw).

Thanks a lot, guys! I can up the greens in my green smoothies. Didn't know about figs as a calcium source - I love those - although according to nutridiary I am totally beyond fine in the fiber department. :)
That's very interesting, rawstrength, about high protein diets causing higher calcium loss - thanks for pointing that out.

Especially (whole) sesame is fantastic! And amaranth and carob too!
