Which dates are the most moist? Are medjools? Thanks in advance!

Medjool are the ones that seem so to be most moist here in Hawaii ... I like them in recipes... don't get me started on dates ... aaaccckkk...
make sure you cut EACH ONE open (regardless of what kind of date), cuz occasionally there is black mold or.. umm ... 'hitchhikers' inside. So - if I'm going to soak the dates - I de pit them and check each one BEFORE they are soaked...

I LOVE medjools! I prefer buying them from mediterranean markets (of which there are none in east TN, so I am having a crisis). I've never seen any hitchikers, but I've never had any that were THAT fresh!!! LOL!!!!

yeah, definitely open up 'em first...learned from experience :o
I like the medjools too, and so far I think they're the most moist.

There was a brand that we bought in a sampler pack from "The Date People"...it started with a "K" and I'm wondering if anyone knows the name? They were SUPER moist, and the "K" name was alittle long in letters.....
HELP....They were so good I want to order about 5-10 lbs of JUST THOSE.....
"Kaluanha...." something like that???? MORE LETTERS THOUGH!!!

I'm never eating a date again. I think I have finally heard the last date story to push me over the edge.

NO LORE-AH....JUST OPEN THEM UP AND PIT THEM FIRST, THEN YOU CAN TELL IF THERE IS ANYTHING LIVING IN THERE. We should be glad that SOMETHING can live in REAL food, ya know?!! I've never seen anything in mine, and I pit mine first!!
Don't deprive yourself.....

DaisyDuke -
I have found that Amir Haj, Mecca Gold, Barhi (as Linda stated), and Khadrawi (which I think tvillemom was refering to) are the most moist. Of course, it depends on how late in the season it is, when they were harvested, how they have been stored, etc.

Dates terrify me!!
But I will have the Barhi .. as our local organic man is very good..and they are super moist ( I usually get someone else to pit, chop and throw them in the blender!!)
I use them in recipies..but..to actually put one in my mouth..not so sure..also really not too fond of the taste alone

I'm going to the date farms tomorrow! I'm so excited. I think they have mainly medjool dates which are generally really moist. Of course, I get mine right off the drying tables, so I think they're all pretty tasty.
