Hi Everyone!
My name is Carly, and I've been 100% raw since July of '07. I heard about raw food while doing a Master Cleanse, as the board that was helping me through the Cleanse talked a lot about raw food. When I came off the cleanse, I decided to see how long I could go without eating any meat, since it lost its appeal for me during the cleanse. Before that, I was a huge meat and junk food eater; there were lots of days where all I would eat from morning to night was meat and cheese (how gross is that?!). Anyway, I was trying to lose weight, since I had put on about 55-60 pounds in about 2 years. I was eating vegetarian for a while, but wasn't losing weight and was eating a lot of junk, and the idea of raw food just kept running around in my head. I didn't think I could do it, but it wouldn't leave me alone! I got Victoria Boutenko's books, Green for Life and 12 Steps to Raw Food, and I was just more and more amazed at the transformations. I spent a lot of time researching raw on the web too, which is how I found this site and a couple of others that have been hugely helpful. The one thing in common with all the people I read about was that they absolutely glowed. They didn't have the pinched, saggy, crazed look that the "success" stories on other weight loss programs had. The raw foodists looked happier than anyone I'd really ever seen, and they were so excited about the way they were eating and the way they were feeling. I was hooked. I did Green Smoothies for a while, and then one day just went 100%. I felt amazing right away, and I'm committed to eating this way for life.
I won't say it's been all sunshine and daisies; there have definitely been some adjustments. After about three months all raw, I had about a month where I kept slipping into cooked food junk, even though it made me so sick and miserable, and never tasted as good as I had imagined it would. But reading the posts on this forum helped me see raw food as a journey and a process of healing instead of just a fad diet, and that has helped me stick to it. I got through that icky month and I'm back on track and so excited.
My main challenges now are to develop a daily exercise habit, to stay 100% by trying new foods and new recipes, and to work toward a solid bedtime schedule (sounds silly, but it makes a huge difference!). I'm excited to finally be participating in the forum that I've read for months and months, and I'm so grateful to everyone here for sharing their journeys and inspiring me to stick with mine!
love to all,
Carly
