Hi, I am feeling terrible today, this cold weather kills me. (I live in South Dakota.)I have thie terrible problem with phlegm, and no its not from detoxing, ive had it my whole life. I went and saw a sinus specialist, and it cost about 2000, and all i got was squirt sea salt up your nose.Do you think I should maybe see a ear nose and throat doctor, or maybe a respitory doctor.I feel like someone is sitting on my chest. No, i dont have a cold, this is daily. I have taken every otc pill you can think of. I thought the raw food diet would help, but so far nothing.Ar there supplements i should be taking? Alissa if you read this, I would like to know your opinoin also. Thanks, all. Pat

Opinion: I don't think being clogged with phlegm is a persons natural state of being. I think it is mostly in reaction to what is being ingested or absorbed by the body. Unless you are in some kind of health CRISIS, I think avoiding medications....a lifelong commitment to the foods that YOU think are healthy......along with simple eating (less combining) and light fasting......will go a LONG way to aleviate your symptoms. Until you have maximized your own level of responsibility...and tried what you have determined might help you.......I wouldn't go turning over my health to some one else. Just my experiences.

a few question: how long have you been raw? and have you ever had a full battery of allergy/nutrition testing done?

It's worth pushing that with a doctor or referred specialist. I was shocked when I found out how many food sensitivities - my most severe "symptoms" disappeared when I removed certain foods from my diet.

Just a thought....Alicia

Something doesn't sound right. If I had to venture to guess, I'd say it's either a food allergy and/or inhalant allergy, or... You might just "think" you have phlegm.

All my life I had a problem of clearning my throat all the time. My parents just thought it was something I did to annoy people. It wasn't. There was just something in my throat. I assumed it was phlegm.

Then I went to a gastroenterologist for a different problem. He diagnosed me with GERD and said given the Barrett's Esophogus (an advanced condition) I had, I'd probably had it since childhood. When I sounded astouded and said I hadn't had any symptoms, he asked me if I cleared my throat a lot. Yep! I was attempting to clear out the acid that was backing up my throat. But unlike most people, I wasn't aware of a burning sensation.

For sure, see a Dr. Not sure which kind to tell you to start with though. Pills are good for some things. But if you're just taking a pill to clear up a symptom, then that's no good. You need to know what you are dealing with.

If it is phelgm, the main source of that is dairy products. If you are on a raw, vegan diet you aren't getting any of that. Unless perhaps you are taking some sort of pills or supplements that have a milk derivative in them. I was. Then I wised up. I didn't realize my AZO yeast pills were made of milk.

I have been raw one week, but have noticed an increase in my phlegm problem especially when I eat dates. Possibly because of the type of fruit they are - very chewy and sugary? It gives me the same feeling almost as eating chewy candy such as Starburst.

Has anyone else experienced this with dates? Maybe I am eating too many of them. They are quite good...
