Hi y'all.

I'm just curious: how many of you actually still have pots and pans in your house? Has anyone here actually pitched them all out?

It occurred to me that simply not having any cooking utensils available in the house would greatly boost the transition to raw. It would mean having to go out and buy a new pot every time you had a craving for cooked food. Just like not having junk food available in the fridge, this might be the key.

I realize this is not an option for those of you who have to cook SAD for your family, of course.

But...has anyone tried this? Did it work, or did you end up buying new pots?

I threw all my pots and pans

Now I have.. replaced it with many raw friendly utensils

Mainly a tonne of baking stuff for "uncooking" -- tart moulds, spatulas, wooden utensils etc!

new gadgets and equipment to play with lol.. knives..things to spiraloo.. juicer etc..

my kitchen is getting overun with new fun things to prepare foods with.... :)

However, getting rid of pans deffinately helped me in the beggining-- as it was far too easy on the way home to get something that could be cooked or to be tempted.

Getting rid of the pans worked for me.. I havent replaced them and wont...

Also kitchen appliances eg. rid of toaster..steamers all that jazz-- gets rid of temptation and.. then making a 100% commitment to yourself also :)

Oh, I totally agree. I gave my cooking paraphanalia (sp?) away within a week of going raw. I knew I would not be needing any of that anymore.

I also took the burners off my gas stove (stored them inside) and put a slab of wood on top of that, unplugged it and that is where my dehydrator sits.

It freed up a ton of space in my kitchen to remove ALL of that. I too have replaced the cooking utensils with raw gadgets, many of which I already had, but some fun things I didn't. Like a reemer (for oranges, lemons, limes, etc.), a mano corer, manual wheatgrass juicer, and the like.

I believe that when one removes the temptations it so helps with transitioning. Just like Alissa states in her book - to empty cabinets of tempting foods too.

For those that have to cook for others in their family, that is a different story. BUT it can be done and done successfully.

If you truly want to better your health and are serious about it, you will find a way...

I thought I gave EVERYTHING away to my friend, but, I was wrong. I was going through one of the boxes that hadn't gotten unpacked yet trying to find something I needed for raw prep, and found one small saucepan!;)

Get rid of it quick!

We don't desire cooked food, so it's not a big deal for us. Also, when we buy this house, we'll be selling the microwave and stove, to make room for another fridge. So there's seriously no danger of it getting used!;)

My only dilemma then will be, where's the new hiding place for the cashews, chili powder, and cayenne, so ds doesn't eat all nine pounds of cashews in a day!:o :D

I've kept all my pots and pans... I use them for mixing bowls! I use my double boiler pan set to melt chocolate... I've used them a time or two to soak my nuts or flax ... heh...heh...heh... http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/Smileyyes2.gif... I have limited kitchen space - so occasionally if you look in a pot you might find some nuts or carob being stored... or dried fruit!! They're great for storage cuz they have covers - keeps the little mice out (I'm in the country) and ... keeps ants ROACHES... all that stuff out of my rawmacious treasures!!

plus - dh still eats cooked... of course - he is not pleased that when he needs a pot - he finds it full of nuts and other raw goodies!! :D

Actually, I DO have to hide them. Cause my little boy will eat them all in one day if I don't! All nine pounds!

Actually, someone had posted an offer for a working fridge on Freecycle. Now I'm just waiting to hear back from her! :D

Thank you so much for sharing, girls! Okay! I am going to do it! Actually, I have to move to another Siberian city, Omsk, and I thought; what better time to totally discard or sell all pots and pans?? It will certainly make my suitcases a helluva lot lighter.

Thanks again for the inspiration....

Everything is gone, we even got rid of the microwave.

I've never even owned a microwave - thank goodness. Never trust how it "cooked" the foods.
That's a good idea StarFire to use the pots and pans as storage, but I don't even want any reminders around me of how I used to eat, which in turn made me ill...

our microwave has always "bugged" me...I think today I will put it in storage and see how dh feels about it, after that fact. LOL!

If it were only up to me, I would take all our pots and pans to the recycling center trading post, sell or giveaway the microwave and stove in a heartbeat!

Alas, my partner is still not raw yet (although she is "interested" so there's hope!) Then will just have to evict our "housemate" who will NEVER be raw (it is not a meal without cooked meat! Blech. She would never even try a veggie patty or other substitute.)

In the meantime, I am grateful that I don't have to prepare SAD meals--they prepare their own meals, and I prepare mine.

I still have all of mine, as my hubby waivers back and forth so much on going raw and staying that way. IF he ever sets his mind to it, I'll box them up and store them somewhere, as when we have out of town guests, I will most likely be expected to cook for them.
