Hello, i just purchased a container of golden flax seeds! I need some help with what to do with them? Do they need to be ground or can i eat as is? Can they be added to smoothies? Used in salads? Soups? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

My sister eats them as is. Doesn't even mix them with anything, just right out of the bag. Ick. :p I grind them in my blender and put them on salads or such. Sometimes I make flaxseed crackers with both ground and unground ones. Yum. :D

If you use flax seeds as they are they just go straight through you. That is fine for someone who just needs the fiber but I take them because I need the essential fatty acids so I need to grind them first. Soaking will also release the goodness.
I take 2 large spoonfuls in a glass of water with one of my meals daily. If I go for a week without doing this I will get cramps in my legs to remind me to get back to the flax.
I also find that my memory improves if I stick with it and take it most days. You have to remember all of the talk about fish being brain food. This is because of the essential fatty acids. Flax is my brain food.

Hi michelle~
I grind them to add to smoothies and add some to my cracker mix. If I grind them I don't soak. I use then whole, soaked overnight as a cracker base...they make the crackers hold together and are very crispy. I personally think if you chew them well you do break them down some and get the benefits of the EFAs. Happy experimenting!!:)
