my 19 month old has had ear aches last winter...almost with every cold. so this year i have set my mind to go wihtout antibiotics?? but i do not want any hearing loss of course. ive read some past posts...some good advice but conflicting. so does anyone have advice?? i bought some mullein garlic oil and have put it in his ear once. i have been doing reflexology points which seemed to work his last cold. my concern with the mullein oil is it going rancid, is this a real concern. well here goes the winter season, hopefully being mostly raw will help us out. no dairy, and trying to cut out all wheat for the 19 month old too. any advice i would appreciate. thanks all.
oh, and how would i know if there is any eardrum rupture??

I used to use mullein on my kids when they had ear aches.... and as far as ear drum rupture... it would be accompanied by extreme pain and dizziness, your entire equalibrium is thrown off. hope your babie does okay this winter! Maybe keep the oil in the fridge and just barely warm it up in a cup of hot water (place the bottle of mullein oil in the glass of hot water) leave in only for a moment or two - take it out shake it... and keep repeating it until the chill is off the liquid). Lobelia oil (used very sparingly) is also very healing and btw... lobelia is great for bruises!

My twins, especially my son had many ear infections. Something like 7 courses of anitbiotics before he was 18 months. At that point I decided that was no way for the poor guy to live. I took them off wheat and dairy and since then no ear infections and they are 6 yrs old now. When ever they say their ears hurt I put 3 drops of hydrogen peroxide in them and let them bubble( do not do this if there is a ruptured eardrum). I will do that 2 times per day until the ears don't hurt anymore. And no more ear infections. Only two of his 7 ear infections were related to colds. The rest I relate to wheat and dairy which are very mucous forming. Of course I didn't know that at the time, even though I asked the doctor if a food could be causing them. I know this is going to be a big shocker, but the doctor said no food could cause them. I know they are WRONG!!!

I hope that I'm not sounding too boorish by always suggesting homeopathy. Homeopathy has been a lifesaver for me and my family--literally. But that's another story.
For ear pain (such as when a child pulls on the ear) or has green/yellow mucous, the remedy Pulsatilla is one fabulous answer.
I hope you have a healthy winter!

I have also used Mullein on my son with excellent results.
