hi,
i've been really impressed about what i've read about Maca so far i bought some the other day and started with a tablespoon mixed with a few ounces of water. I did this for a few days, and basically... its KILLED my digestion!!! I usually have good bowel movements around 2 a day of a nice consistancy, but since taking maca i've been going a day without any bowel movements and when i finally do, it all comes out and altho its not quite direaha, its basically just coming out with undigested food bits.....(sorry for being so detailed ;) )
Is maca just not able for me?? I really want to try it and be able to use it.. its so frustrating! Has anyone else had any problems?
Maybe a tablespoon is too much to start of with? Is there any hope if i start in smaller amount and work my way up to a tablespoon my body might get used to it?
Any help and advice would be really good!!

Hi,
I just discovered this amazing maca stuff, too.
Although, I don't drink it pure with water (is this the recommended way to have it?), but I add it to my quinoghurts and puddings, creams etc.
I never had any problems (just got it a few days ago, though) with digestion. I just realized that I love the taste like crazy!! :D
Sorry, I guess that wasn't much of a helpful post.
Did you change anything else in your diet since then? Or have you been eating less? Maybe it's not the maca?
Hope you will be able to enjoy it!

No i haven't changed what i had eaten apart from trying some fllax oil I hadn't had before.. I usually have olive oil but can digest that fine so any oils couldn't be a problem...
It would just give me some confort though if some people are known to get digestive problems if taking maca in doses maybe higher then there body can allow or just need to get used to it! I do love the taste of it tho.. I've started again with a teaspoon this time today and will try just a teaspoon for a few days and see how that goes.
I've just bought David Wolfe 's sunfood diet book (don't worry alissa i have yours ;) ) basically for his daily diet one of his meals he has everyday is something like a tablespoon each of maca, goji berry and cocoa all blended in a fruit smoothie!! That is something I definately want to do.. all the energy those 3 superfoods are meant to bring and all that goodness! Just got to get the maca working for me first......

I've only tried maca in a raw chocolate maca concoction that was fabulous... but I didn't actually eat much of it - (all my carnivore friends and family devoured it!)... but I have been taking it by the capsules -- 525 mgs and I take 2 every morning.
I definitley feel more stamina when I take it... amazing stuff! (but no um http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/blush_mini.gif..... 'noticable' change in the ol bowel area!)

Where should I look to buy Maca? Might they have it at a local health food store or whole foods? Any recommended brands?
I was first read about Maca in Brednan Brazier's book 'Thrive' which isn't 100% raw but focuses on a whole foods plant based diet.

I just bought that book for my son for Christmas...I thought it would be a great intro book for him. He's training to do an ironman.
I bought my maca from sunfoodnutrition and use a T. a day in my cacao drink and have had no digestive issues. I also add chia seeds and flax to it which has a lot of fiber. Make sure you are getitng enough greens in your diet...that does help a great deal.

I bought some maca and I am having a hard time getting it down. I don't have to worry about getting it back out. To me the taste is really bad. I am glad to see that maca comes in capsules. I have never had a problem with constipation until I started using flaxseed. I am probably not drinking enough water. I think that water intake is the key to most constipation problems.

I don't mind the taste so much but if you mix it into a smoothie w/cacao it covers up the taste almost completely. Whenever you use flax or chia you need to increase your water intake..yup~

Thanks for all the replies :)
I've now had 2 days of maca, this time just 1 teaspoon and my poops seem to be near to normal :) Maybe one more day with a teaspoon and then 2 teaspoons after that :)
I did use to hate the taste of maca, but i now really love it!
