I just made my first raw soup and it was horrible. carrots celery and orange pepper. The texture was lumpy and I think I must have put too much black pepper in as it made me feel nauseous. Are all raw soups lumpy in texture?:(

What sort of blender are you using? That will make a difference. I've made raw soups that were quite creamy in my Vitamix...

Using a ripe avocado as a base makes it creamy, or you could sieve the soup to get the lumps out.

Gazpacho can be lumpy (as in diced veggies), but have seen recipes for smooth versions. Sometimes the recipe creator instructs to stir in an amount of diced or minced ingredient (corn, mushroom, carrot, etc.) back into the soup for texture prior to serving.

If your soup was meant to be smooth, maybe as suggested sieve out lumps or just blend a little longer. Soups are one of my favorites this time of year--easy, warming and filling.

I use a Kenwood blender. I admit it doesnt blend things like an old kenwood I used to have. It tends to leave things a bit smoother than my old food processor. I think adding an avocado would be a good idea. I was full of hope this morning when I was deciding what to do today. I am trying one new recipe a day. Now I feel squashed flat. I used to like 'cream of ' soups. :( What is the vitamix like. I wonder if I can get one in the UK.

Yes you can get Vitamiz here in UK

Otherwise, try avo, or using cashew cream as a base(smooths most things out) or use a juice base-- like green juice, then blend in the other ingredients for a smoother/thinner texture

Hope that helps ..is time for wintery soups ;)

Only if you don't blend them long enough.

If you have Alissa's book, try her Corn Chowder! It's one of my absolute favorites!!!

You gotta get a Vitamix. Everything comes out creamy and warm. Can't beat that!

I just made a great soup, but I do have a vitamix.

Mix some water with a little organic olive oil
then mix in some celery stalks
add garlic clove ( with peel)
small chunk of ginger
celtic sea salt
a dollap of honey
juice of a lemon
mix well.

Poor in bowl and then add diced veggies of choice. I added grated carrots, sliced green onion, diced sweet red peper.

One bowl and I am FULL ! I usually make what I am going to eat but I will see how this is tomorrow..

Good luck !

I am going to try again today. This time with a tomato soup. I'll put the avocado in and practice at making cashew cream. I'll let you know what happens.

I drank the other soup, even though it made me feel nauseous, but I never had any other problems 'at the other end' because of it.

I have just made the tomato soup and blended it for about two minutes. It was so creamy and smooth this time. We are used to the stronger taste of cooked tomato soup, so we had a little surprise at the fresher taste of using fresh tomatoes. The only thing is, they import them from spain and we find that these tomatoes are not fully ripe when bought. I can imagine how much richer it would taste when done with fully ripened tomatoes. Next year I will grow some. I will try the carrot one again, tomorrow, using carrot juice and not whole ones. I think I am going to love doing this.

I like to make "mono" soups. For example the tomato soup. First I blend some tomatoes with a little ice and water and then pour it over a bowl full of "cherry" or "grape" tomatoes. It really brings out the tomato taste. You can make a lot of different mono soups. Try banana soup :)

I think that is the best way too. I blended up some fruit and dates and things, I can't remember what now, but I lost the taste of each fruit. There is something good about eating simply and experiencing individual tastes. Now, what about the banana thingy you were talking about. Did you freeze them first or just blend with nut milk or something?:)

I just got my Vitamix, and I love it. I don't know what to do with my old blender now. I thought spending a lot of money on a blender was crazy but it is worth it. I even made Northern Bean "hummus" last night!!!!!

First I blend some room temperature Bananas with a little ice and water and then pour it over a bowl full of sliced room temperature Bananas. The trick to making this soup work IMO is to use firm bananas, ripe but with a touch of green on the ends, thinly sliced (about 1/2 inch thick) in the bowl. For the blended bananas use VERY RIPE, no green ends and some black showing on the peels. It really brings out the Banana taste. If you like bananas you will go bananas for this soup.

Second will be better - green onion , celery will add more savory taste, avocado smooth creamy texture, soaked date or two sweetness, a little lemon juice will improve the taste a lot - parsley is a good thing to add too - rest is up to you! Try many different combinations and favourite spices - Soups are good!

I like to use almond milk as a base and add in spices of garlic, ginger, cayenne pepper and blend well. Then add in cut up veges to make it like a 'stew' consistancy. Yum - I am getting hungry again
