Hello folks,
I'd like to introduce myself to this wonderful community. My friend and I are starting a 30 day raw food challenge, beginning today Dec 1st. We live in different states but will be supporting each other through the process. We are extremely excited!! I am expecting my vitamix in the mail next week and I'll be purchasing my raw food in the morning. My goal is to feel great and look even better. And I'm hoping to lose 20 pounds in the process. I'm giving myself 30 days to learn as much as I can, with the goal of adopting raw food as a lifestyle.
And thanks in advance for answering the tons of questions I may have over the next month! ;)

I'd like to know if there are any raw foodists in Houston...it would be great to have some kind of support group. I've been wondering if there are any raw restaurants here..haven't been able to find any via Internet.

Maybe post this question in the general discussion area! More rawbies cruise thru that section and I'm sure you would get more responses there!! I know you texans are out there somewhere!! :D

Welcome NEWBIE2RAW!!!!! YEA BABY, another TEXAN!!! YEEEE HAAAA!!!!
I live in Katy and have been on this journey since May 2007. Looking at my blog, you can see I've had some ups and downs.... I'm happy to say, mostly ups, though!!!! :) I'm starting the December Challenge today as well and aiming to be 100% RAW!!!!
You'll find TREMENDOUS support here! Alissa is AMAZING!!! I never get tired of consulting her wonderful book! What I love most about this site is that no one is here to "judge" you, only support you.... I love that this site doesn't focus totally on "slip-ups".. There are no Raw Food Police here... :) If you fall off of the horse, just get back on!!! Everyone here is striving to be RAW and I find that encouraging because I don't feel like I'm struggling alone.
So, welcome!!!!!!

Oh, unfortunately there are no 100% RAW Restaurants here in Houston that I know of... (believe me, I have searched high and low...), but that's what is so great about having Alissa's book...she teaches you how to make these DELICIOUS recipes right in your own home and the best thing about it is that you know where your hands have been!!! ha, ha, ha, ha,....

Good luck in the 30 day challenge. You can find a ton of information in that period and maybe you'll even stay raw after the 30 days!:D

Hello and welcome - i moved back to PA from Houston in July - there is a raw food community there - you just have to look for it - its hiding out behind the bar-b-ques and roasts, but its there, and once you start tapping it you will see so many folks will come out of the woodwork. There are living on live food certified teachers in the area - and Patricia Greer who started the Central City Co-op on Taft Street in Montrose would probably be an excellent resource - I think she may be Yaya of Yaya's rawrahs (raw crackers) - the co-op is also a good place to purchase raw treats! I look forward to seeing you on the boards!

Yes, Pat is Yaya. Her crackers are available at the Whole Foods here. She used to give "cooking" classes, but hasn't for a few years.

You guys are wonderful!! I've been doing pretty good this week and haven't been hungry at all. But I do have one question..and please don't laugh at me. I tried soaking my almonds...but they stink!!! I let them soak for 8 hours and they smell awful..is that supposed to happen?

Hey newbie, welcome!! Great to meet you! :D Not sure about those almonds... I've only soaked them once, and they didn't smell. Hmmm. Maybe post that question in the recipe forum if you haven't already? I hope your 30 day challenge is going great!!

Hey welcome to the board and congrats on doing so well!
I am not sure about the almonds. Try posting your question in the general raw food forum. Someone there is bound to know.

I also live in the N/W Houston area. I formerly resided in Austin area and had no idea that Houston had a raw food support network.::rolleyes:
I would also love to go to a raw food potluck.
