Here we go!!!
How's everyone doing?
Anyone new thinking about doing a fast/feast this month??
I love reading about everyones experiences, so get writing people!!! :D
I just finished up day 7 of my fast/feast, and I'm still loving it!!!!
I think I may be experiencing a bit of emotional detox. I'm an extremely emotional girl as it is, but today was pretty ..... bad!
I cried because the juicer wasn't put together this morning (it was drying in the rack because my husband just used it), I cried because there wasn't any cut up pineapple, I cried because the baby spinach leaves were falling all over the place as I was trying to put them down the chute... you get the picture, lol. Today was full of tears ... but it's all part of the process, and I'm really feeling great about cleansing my body from all sorts of toxins... physical, mental, emotional - ALL OF THEM!!!

Aww I know what you mean about emotional detox. Well I am wanting to do a fast this month, well at least until the 20ths when I leave to go visit family for xmas and they will want to eat with me. But then after that back on track for a long fast in Jan. If I fast rgiht now it'll probibly be 2 weeks just to pre-pair for the long fast in Jan. I want to learn how to enjoy a fast instead of being so focused on what you can't have.
I would have started today but I lost the willpower, hopefully on or by monday I will be doing it.

I am here with you. I was going to follow the December Challenge for Motivation but since being Raw is easy, and Juice Fasting is not, I am defecting to this thread. I have been able to keep my diet mostly liquid, but have over the last week eaten a bunch of banana's ! I made my veggies and other fruits into Juice to keep me in check.
Until tomorrow ! :)

Hey guys.
I'm checking in on Day 8. Going strong. I can't believe its been a week already. It really hasn't even phased me yet. I always have that tough day 3...but otherwise..not a problem here.
You guys would have laughed at me last night. I went out dancing at a club for one of my friends birthdays. I brought a green juice with me in the car. I popped out of club in the middle of the evening... chugged down my juice...then went back in. Who said you can't fast..and still have a normal life?? :D :D :D
Happy Fasting to you all!

Hi Guys!!!
Sounds like you're doing good, rawfigure, even with the bananas. You'll find your balence when you're ready :)
LOL Shannon. That cracks me up!! Feast On, Girlie!
I'm winding down day 9, and I'm starting to feel slightly - I don't know, bugged. I'm not thinking about breaking my fast/feast, not by any means, but I have been feel more "cravey". I see my kids eating guacamole with cauliflower, and I WANT SOME! lol. Smells of salads and things, too, get to me.
I think I'm just getting a bit frustrated. I'm cold!!!!!! I'm growing increasingly impatient with having to take apart and clean the juicer several times a day. I'm becoming frustrated with the cost of juicing (with a family of 5, it's hard to have a "different" diet plan, and have that NOT affect the check book). I don't know. I'm just bugged.
I'm trying hard to shift my focus ...
I'm going to try and enjoy the sights and smells of some great healthy food as just that - sights and smells. I'm not going to get hung up on what I "can" and "cannot" have. Truth is, I CAN have whatever it is I want to have. I have to remember I am CHOOSING not to feed my body certain things during this time, and there is a reason for that! It's not about deprivation, it's about choices!!!
Sure, it may be a pain in the butt having to clean the juicer a thousand times a day, but I'm SO lucky to have the luxury of not only having the information on how to gain a healthful lifestyle, but also the ability to walk the path. I'm going to try and remember to smile each and everytime I am cleaning that juicer, knowing how good I am being to my mind, to my body, to my spirit, to my family, to this entire universe by using such a simple piece of equipment!
As far as the money thing. That one will be a bit more tricky. It's hard for me, as a mother, to know that my personal diet is eating up more of our families finances then we have prepared for. I know my health is worth it, and as long as it doesn't interfer with the health of my children, I will find a way to make it work ... it's just a bit hard to swallow the guilt. I'm don't feel OVERLY guilty, in the sense that I'm worried and stressing about it, but I can see how my feelings could possibly escalate to that. I'm going to keep a close watch on my feelings, and hopefully will be able to nip it in the bud before I DO start to worry/stress over it - as that would pretty much null and void any benefits I will gain from this fast/feast.
Peace :D

Hey everyone, sadly I haven't started yet. I am going to try again tomorrow when I am not in a house full of roomies eating yummy food because most of them will be at work. I need that quiet time during the first few days.
Anyways I have a question. Are any of you fasting right through xmas? I am currious because I have only ever fasted 6 days and my next goal is 2 weeks and then to eat again when I go home to see my family, but I was thinking "what if after 2 weeks I don't want to stop, what would xmas/family time look like then?"
It really got me thinking about how food filled the holidays really are. My mom called me just last week asking what food to buy for me, and what she can make me. So needless to say I am worried about xmas, and especially the fact that I may just want to keep fasting.
I am doing a big fast in Jan, but if I started now then I could just keep going through Jan and be even more healthy for this event that I am going to in early Feb. I would like to go to that event feeling confident and you know, glowing with health.
I just keep racking my brain about what to do:confused:

Mialsse, what you are doing takes alot out of you. I think it is Normal (in the fasting sense) to feel emotional, frustrated and have cravings. I know I have craved banana's and I have given in to it !! I also have been adding warm soups (all puree and broth) a few meals a day. I found a Veg Miso I like and I also have I am making a Squash Puree Soup right now for tomorrow.
We are having a Christmas Lunch at the Office and it is pretty much Chili, Meatballs, Taco Dip and such. Since I am bring my famous Mexican Corn Soup (cooked for them) I thought I better have a raw soup for me to get through the Lunch.
If you are cold you could try something like a raw tomato concentrate that you can mix with warm water (or make your own if on a budget) I get mine from Whole Food Farmacy caled AmpliPhi. Today I put a tablesppon in warm miso, it was nice and warmed me up too.
Firicia...I am glad you are going us. I purposely choose Dec as a Juice Fast month. It is the one month where my resolve goes out the window cuz I LOVE CHRISTMAS COOKIES..and every year since going Raw I cave at Xmas and eat cookies then feel HORRIBLE (I am a former Hypoglycemic and it rears its ugly head in Dec) so this year I changed my mindset and I am going to do drinks at the functions I go to, and if I have to bring something it will be raw soup. I think I will make a few Raw Cookies for Xmas Day (and may get the Cake of Dreams from Whole Food Farmacy) as I am hosting a Xmas Cookie Party. I was asked (due to my gourmet kitchen with multiple cooking areas..) so I have four women coming to make Cookies for Gift Tins )
Well I must go..bye for now...

Ugh... what is with day 9 or 10? I always feel like I have some sort of flu or something. Today was crazy for me. I had a major breakdown.... starting with one little tear...and then the flood gates opened. Not to mention the hyper ventilating I did as well. I'm never like this! Talk about intense detox. And to top it off... I could barely get any juice in today. My body was saying no all day! So... here we are again..water fasting for the 2nd day. I really hope this passes soon....cause I don't like feeling this way..that's for sure!
Hope everyone else is having a better day!

Today was a much better day, spirit wise. I was once again happy to be feasting, instead of frustrated because of everything else. Still some emotional detox going on, and I'm still full of tears over every thing, but I'm finding my "happy place" lol :p
That being said, I woke up today wanting NOTHING but coconut water/milk. I, unwisely, ignored my body, and made myself a juice. I made 36 ounces, but only drank 12 of them, and felt sick for many hours after that!
Lesson learned!! nothing but coconut milk after that, haaa!

I'm glad you're doing so well! That's awesome. I have a questions for ya, what's the significance of a 92 day feast? I hear/read about that amount of days a lot when I'm scanning for fasting/feasting information...it just seems like such an "odd" number. What does everyone else know that I don't? lol
As for me, going on day 13. Not too much to report - Everything is going great.

Hey everyone. I am having such a hard time trying to get on this fastign wagon. I just keep thinking about how I'd have to stop over xmas break to eat crappy bad for you foods anyways so I keep wondering what the point is.
I guess I just need some support.
I feel like if I start I won't want to stop and I know that my mom is looking farward to cooking for me (not a lot of raw:( either), and my Baba (grandma) is looking farward to going out to lunch with me (this may be her last xmas so I feel like who am I to not eat with her when thats what she wants) and I know my dad is really looking forward to making me my birthday dinner on the 28th. I really love my family, and I haven't been home for xmas in 2 years.
I guess I am just feeling a lot of pressure/responsibility to eat, how nuts is that? Why does food have to be such a huge part of the holidays? I know my health needs this though.
Haha well thats my little vent, thanks for letting me do it. I guess I could use some support. :o

Firicia... first let me say... (and rawbies -- please don't throw tomatoes at me!)... but... this lifestyle is about freedom and joy. NOT PRESSURE. To eat this way is a gift. It is choice we make cuz we want to.
raw foods will always be here... whether you 'stay raw' or not... If this LIFEstyle becomes a DIE'it... then it's no longer beautiful and vibrant... if you lose your joy about eating this way then -- well... it becomes something that is depriving you of something else ~ and that's never fun.
Don't miss out on memories with your family, don't feel pressured to 'be a certain way'... or 'hold to a certain standard'. Eat raw - only if you REALLY want to ... Eat raw - only if there is joy in your heart and you're not feeling 'pressured' to stay raw or eat sad or eat whatever...
Simply be Firicia... simply be. Enjoy your life - enjoy your family -- if you eat outside of the raw box... nbd!! seriously! IT'S ABOUT JOY... AND LAUGHTER... FREEDOM!!! if you're not feeling that - then what's the point... you can always go on a DIE'it ... and there are many different kinds of DIE'its.... this ... THIS IS A LIFESTYLE.... and you are free to choose it cuz you want to.
So - this holiday season - if you WANT to ... eat what your family provides... enjoy your time with your Grandmother... but ALSO... only eat those foods if you WANT to... ;) okay? RAW FOODs will always be waiting for you... we're certainly not going anywhere so we'll be here too!!!
NO PRESSURE... NO STRESS... AND DEFINITELY NO GUILT!!! ENJOY your holidays... ENJOY your family... that's what the holidays are about.... love, laughter, memories...
so be happy okay?!!!

I found this on the site: juicefeasting.com
The reason that we have created a 92-Day Program is thanks to John Rose's discovery of two things:
1. Most people need more than 7-21 days to heal their health challenges.
2. Most people can heal their health challenges, provided that they place their body in a cleansing physiology long enough with the right food and lifestyle ingredients added in.
3. You can accomplish this with time and food and lifestyle ingredients by drinking fresh juices for 60-92 days.

raw figure-I noticed you said you are a former hypoglycemic. How did you cure it? I am currently very disabled with my blood sugar problems
YES !! I suffered from hypoglycemia for 12 years ! Now (as long as I watch my food choices) I am fine !
I had times I would have to crawl (literally) to get sugar to bring me back and once I actually ended up on a glucose drip as I crashed to point of passing out and not coming out of it.
Now I am FREE...I removed cooked starches from my diet and reduced my cooked protein intake. When I was eating mostly cooked foods I could not have fruit (and never a date..) w/o crashing. I cannot even have wheat toast, things like Ezekial bread ! Now that all that is out of my diet I can eat fruit, yeah. I cannot have alot of sweet fruit, honey or much raw agave though. Try high fiber fruit to start. And NO cooked starches !!
Hope that helps.

Hello everyone,
Glad to see some other people out there are doing this, too! I am starting my 92-day juice feast on 30 Dec, to finish on 31 March... that gives me half a month to ease back into solids in time for my b-day, lol :p I was adamant I was not going to be 30 and overweight, and that kinda failed... same again for 31... this time I am guessing I won't just have lost a lot of weight, but I will have given my body the best nutrition ever and cleansed it to perfection! Can't wait to get started! Am currently sorting out where to get the best (and affordable) produce from and ordering various supplements online, have read through Angela Stokes' juice feast blog and am currently reading Courtney Pools's blog (http://courtneypool.blogspot.com - she's working at the Tree of Life, I found her blog on juicefeasting.com). I am also reading Angela's "A Juice Feaster's Handbook" and now I shall have to add more reading material to my list - Shannon's blog! :D
I will also be blogging about my experieces on http://powerofraw.blogspot.com
I have done two 3-week fasts before, and I get on very well with fasting, but I think this will be a radically different experience!! I just keep thinking of all that nutrition... I'm gonna "do a Shazzie" and love myself to life! ;)
Oh, btw, Mialsse - I just wanted to tell you that if you have a good blender, you can blend your juices and just strain them with a nut milk bag. I have a Champion, but I suspect I will mainly be using the Vita-Mix, at least for the softer types of produce. Much less cleaning that way!

I'm starting my juice fast today. I will continue for 30 days. The longest I've done is 10 days. I have always had a very stressful life, so it is hard for me to fast. I want to do the best I can and not let negative circumstances be an excuse anymore. I am modifying with one green smoothie in the morning to help with my blood sugar. My goals for the fast are to lose weight, sleep better, clear my skin, and improve my blood sugar control. I plan to walk everyday and to do a gentle home yoga practice.

I'm seriously gonna break down and cry. I'm soooooooo frustrated. This is day 8 of a sore throat! And its not just a normal sore throat. (I'm not that wimpy) Its on my right side, feels like a marble with razor blades sticking out of it. Hurts when I swallow, if I stick my tongue out too far, and sometimes when I talk. I'm sooooooooo frustrated! I'm contemplating going to the doctor...but don't want to.. cause we all know what they're gonna tell me. Take this medicine. Then I'm gonna have to break my fast. I really just wish it would go away already. I've tried gargling salt water..didn't really work... maybe in my head. I've sucked on Slippery Elm Bark...nope didn't work. And I'm holding off on honey until I find out if its allowed on my juice feast. Grrrrrrrr....
Anyway... sorry people... but I need to vent before I go crazy over here in sore throat land.

Hi Shannon,
I'm sorry to hear about your sore throat. I saw your post at another forum as well so I did a little search for natural cures for you. Hope this helps.
Lemon and honey are the traditional cures for the painful sore throat. It helps to kill the bacteria that cause the inflammation and to alleviate pain. Take a spoon of raw honey and add a spoon of lemon juice. Do the gargles three or four times a day. You may also use raw honey only if you are allergic to lemon.
Ginger Water: Grate about a teaspoon of fresh ginger and add one cup of hot water. Drink it as tea. It is also good for digestion and to eliminate toxins.
Chamomile tea: Do gargles with chamomile tea; it helps to reduce the inflammation on your throat.
Salt and water gargles: Add about one table spoon of salt to one cup of warm water and do gargles three or four times a day.
Salt, water and turmeric powder: Same as before but add a pinch of turmeric powder, mix well and do gargles twice a day.
Warm water gargles: Do gargles three times a day with warm water. Clean your mouth before doing the gargles. Or mix one cup of warm water and 10 drops of tea tree essential oil. Do gargles three times a day.
Hope you feel better :)

Shannon - this may be a stupid question and you may have already said and I missed it. Are you taking enemas? If not, you may want to consider and this may help you get through your current crisis. Just a thought.
I am planning on starting a 21 day juice fast on the 26th. This will be my longest fast, I've done 3 and 7 days in the past. I am looking forward to starting but will have to make it through the weekend away from home first :) .

hey Webgurl... Thanks so much for all of your sore throat solutions! They are much appreciated. I ended up going to a Naturopathic Doctor who gave me a homeopathic remedy...and also told me to do hydrotherapy on my neck. It was unbelievable the difference its made. Next day 70% better... and not so irritable. The 2nd day... I'll say 90% better. So I imagine tomorrow... even better!
Thanks for taking the time to find all those natural cures. I didn't know about the ginger tea or the chamomile tea. I'll use those in the future.
Heather: Thanks too. Yes, I have been incorporating enemas. I haven't been using them as often as I probably should, but I get them in. When this sore throat thing hit, it was the first thing I did. Thanks for the input as well! Much appreciated!
Hello feasters!!! I have not been feeling fantastic lately as I had been. I think I need to work extra hard to clean house. Does anyone else oil pull? I'm wondering if I should still do this or if it would be a problem for some reason.
And I'm also wondering how I will taper off the juice feast/fast when it's time. I've only done 1-day fasts in the past, for religious reasons. I've actually never done once since I've been raw. I also am not at all overweight (about 120#) and I *think* I got rid of at least a lot of my ickiness when I went raw. How long do you think is a good idea to fast???
I'm off to OP (hope that's okay still because it really does clean me out some on its own!), then I'll have 2-3 cukes with some apple and ginger. :) So, here comes Day 1 of ___ days of feasting!!

Hey December fasters/feasters! I am on day 1 of my juice fast and my hubby surprised me and is joining me for at least a few days! So, I've made our juice for the day, I am planning on consuming:
1 qt. carrot juice
1 qt. apple/collard/lemon juice
1 qt. grapefruit juice
I also oil pulled for the first time this morning. I thought it would be REALLY gross but it was only mildly yucky when I first put it in my mouth but was fine after the initial shock  And I know it is recommended for 20 minutes but I could only handle it for 10... I will work on building up this time.
I think I'm going to schedule a massage for somewhere between day 3 and 5 to help the detox. Anyone have any advice on lymphatic drainage massage, I've never had one but I think it might be the way to go.
I am planning on fasting for 21 days ... but who knows
Heather
All right!!! I'm feeling grrrreat so far. I didn't hear back before oil pulling, so I just went for it! I'm sure glad that's okay to do still! ;)
Holy goodness Justine! 16 oz. of pineapple juice!? What was that, like 10 pineapples!? haha. No really... OK, can't believe I don't know this (OK maybe I can)... but how do you juice a pineapple??
I had a great start with 3 cukes, 2 apples, some cilantro and a hunk of ginger for my first juice of the day. Next up was about 5 clementines, which I actually mixed with water and couldn't drink all of it. I'll finish it off the next time I have a hunger pang.
I'm already feeling really clean... I don't know how better to describe it. I'm feeling great and really light and calm and clear-headed. What a nice start. I would like to do yoga each day and to clean house more in terms of organizing my belongings and files, my car etc... I'm considering also selling all of the furniture I have in storage... I just really feel the need to clean inside and out.
MiahTay: GREAT idea on the massage!!! I JUST called (after reading your post) my massage therapist! (HA! Like I go there all the time. I've had one massage in the last five years or so... but I know her because I used to work at the spa, and she is great... and does massages in her home for much less than I would pay at the spa!)... So, she didn't answer, but I am definitely going to try to schedule a massage in a few days or so! If not, I might be keeping this fast until the new year.
I'm still between on how much time to do it for!
Oh yeah, and MiahTay: SO cool that you oil pulled. I feel soooo much better when I OP. I actually have gotten to the point where I will frequently do it for an hour or more like it's nothing. And it's funny, I have very little phlegm production, but I always bring up a ton of mucous by the end. I think it's part of why my breathing is so ridiculously unobstructed. And my teeth are white as heck compared to when I started.
OMG... I'm just blabbing on and on huh?
All right... can't wait to hear more. This is exciting! :D ;)

Also do you guys only do juices or do you do green smoothies as well?

We freeze our pulp if we don't use it ~ it's awesome in smoothies. I can only speak for myself but I will probably throw a nice green smoothie into the mix as I don't care for juiced greens. :D

I think I am going to start this right now ha. This morning I had way too many Raw Revolution bars and I just feel terrible. I have been wanting to do a juice/smoothie fast and this terrible feeling in my stomach gave me the push I needed.
QUESTION: Do you guys freeze your pulp? Normally when I juice I dehydrate the pulp into something but if your fasting can you freeze the pulp for later use? I dont want to waste it:(
Also do you guys only do juices or do you do green smoothies as well?
No smoothies for me, I'm straining my juice to pure liquid. If I'm not mistaken your body will have to go into digestion mode if you include the fiber (but I could be wrong).
I have been pitching my pulp (ok, I hear all your gasps). Yes, I hate doing this but don't have a dehydrator yet and haven't found a good use for it yet and really don't want to devote the energy right now, especially since I'm not eating solid food at the moment!
Heather
Hmmmm.... good idea on the pulp. I JUST had another juice (celery and cucumber this time, which I really enjoyed!!!) and I was feeling bad about how much food I was not using! I will likely only do this juice feast for a few days, then maybe do a week or so of just smoothies and juices... so I'll keep the pulp to stick in my juices. That actually makes sense to, say, start the morning with cuke juice, then later have a green smoothie that has the pulp in it. I guess I would just have to be careful about what else I put in there. I'm not used to putting veggies other than the leafy variety in my green smoothies.
OK, Justine, hate to keep nagging you about this pineapple juicing thing :p but I'm trying to figure out if I have a masticating juicer or not. I have three different juicers. One is for oranges and lemons and the like, pretty sure that ain't it!! Another is for wheat grass. It's the kind that just squeezes the grass until all that's left is a funny braided looking thing. And the other one says it's a "juice extractor"... basically rips the stuff to shreds.
I just can't imagine sticking a pineapple in any of these!! Except... maybe... the last one...
I'm definitely getting some pineapples from the store today. This is going to be an expensive few days! But I guess worth it if I am able to clear myself out mentally and physically. :)
And Heather... no gasping... I'm doing the same thing until I can figure out what else to do with the pulp.
I'm curious if anyone else has some good input on the body going into "digestion mode" with the pulp and all in green smoothies...
In any case, for those who are doing a mix, I'm sure it would still be quite beneficial for a quick cleaning of house. Green smoothies are certainly not difficult to digest! :)
OK Seriously. I AM HUNGRY. I've juiced about 6 or 7 cukes so far, 5 clementines, 5 or 6 apples and plenty of ginger. And my stomach is rumbling like MAD!!! What do I juice to make it stop???

QUANTITY! As I was reading on the "juice feast" website they were recommending that one drinks FOUR QUARTS of juice! I was like "NO WAY can I drink a gallon of raw juices"! Anyway, I made myself three quarts and will have no problem drinking it by the end of today and no serious hunger pangs. Maybe this will help?

I agree with MiaTay... doesn't seem like enough. I've had the previous juice in the aforementioned post as well as 16oz kombucha (yeah like I'm giving THAT up besides, it's liquid :p ), 20oz cucumber juice, 16 oz more orange juice and a bit 'o water. I look and feel bloated and I am going, um, potty every 15 minutes. No more jumping on the rebounder for me.....;)
Man, since then I've had another 3 cukes, 2 stalks of celery, a beet, half a pineapple, a couple apples and about 8 papa carrots. And actually... add it up, I think I probably have had close to a gallon of juice today! Cool.
Definitely feeling nourished!!! And I just went to the store. I bought four pineapples in your honor Mrs. Smith! Along with 12 cucumbers, some parsley, 5 lbs of carrots and some chicken for the dog who is also feasting now. Except for his feast makes me wanna vomit. Ick!
All right... I have one more question and a comment... How often do you guys clean your juicers? I have only cleaned it three times today but used it about six. I've just been cleaning it as it fills up. Any reason I need to clean it every time I use it??
And the comment is that this is great! I'm really feeling cleaned out and nourished! And, swear to God, I had this one very active (and red and ugly) pimple this morning that is now fading fast just 12 hours later!!! I need to do more research on it, but I believe that I have been eating too many nuts and overworking my kidneys with the volume of usable phosphorus... And now, I'm cleaning house and giving my kidneys a break. I'll have to do a search to see if I'm remembering that correctly... This should be a lesson to not eat nuts just because I want a crunchy snack!

I am at the end of day 1. I will be going to bed early tonight. I don't feel BAD, but I can tell my body is doing something different. I consumed my 3 quarts of juice and feel pretty satisfied so I will probably stay here, if I start to feel hungry all the time I will up my amount to 4 quarts. Love having you guys as fasting buddies! Keep up the good work. Oh, and my hubby made it through the day with me (this is HUGE!).
Happy fasting, and I'll check in in the morning after I go to Sam's and buy massive quantities of produce.
Heather
Yay for you and dh!!! My body is definitely doing some cool stuff too. So yahoo! Can't wait for day number two! :)

Good morning! Yes ... it is DAY 2! I'm feeling good, no serious detox yet but I have felt slightly shaky at times. I just made my first juice for the day and had my first 8 oz. So, off to Sam's club with me or it will be the last juice I make today. My plan for today is:
1 qt. carrot/celery/broccoli/beet (it's what I had in the fridge)
1 qt. grapefruit
1 qt. apple/spinach/lemon
Have a GREAT day and I'll check in a little later. Oh and BTW, hubby is still fasting also!
Heather
But first a whoo-hoo for Heather and the dh!!
I had an avocado last night. I'm studying to become a personal trainer, and there is soooo much information to soak in. I started feeling like I just can't do it right now... The pattern is my confidence level drops, I eat something for emotions. :o
Anyways, I'm realizing that's something I need to really focus on. Once the going gets tough, I really start doubting myself. That's got to end here!
This morning, I started the day fresh. I did a little weight training and stretching... recited and pointed to the muscle names. haha...
Oil swished :D
AND I had about 24 oz. of juice (pineapple, carrot, ginger and cucumber)... Had about the same of water that I poured into the container (man that juice is strong, the leftover bits on the side of the cup mixed with water is STILL strong!) and now I'm sipping hot tea and imagining what I want from my best self. :)

I LOVE those kind of "it's what was in the fridge" juices ~ they are usually the BEST!! I also went to bed last night at about 8:45, exhausted, but then I was up from 11:40 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. ~ THAT STUNK. My stomach hurt SO BAD... I knew that something needed to get out of there and sure enough.... O.k. TMI sorry. :o So this a.m. I am starting again with a big 'ol glass of pineapple (RAWK ON Eva!) and if my tum starts hurting again I'll do some apple and ginger and hopefully that will help. So on the menu today is:
Pineapple
Orange
Carrot
Cucumber
Apple, ginger as needed
Kombucha (always :p )
And dare I say, is my stomach already getting flatter?!?!
Yay Justine!!! Are you turning into sponge bob or is he just excited about your flatter belly that just got rid of some unmentionables?? :D

Hee Hee... I've often said I am shaped like Spongebob but in this case he is a representation of pure excitement!! :D
All right ladies... I'm feeling really, really good!!!
It's been about 10 years since I fasted on purpose, and that was for about a day for spiritual reasons. And I was 16. :D
SOOOOO.... This has got me thinking. Is this something to do regularly? Would it mess up my metabolism or anything funky if I did? How do you guys wean yourselves off so that your body doesn't get a little wacky when you start with regular solids again?
Hmmmm.... Maybe this is something I should post a new thread about.... I might just do that too, but please tell me your thoughts if you have anything special to share. ;)
How are you holding up by the way... and Heather, how about your dh??

Eva and Justine you guys are GREAT. I always look forward to picking up my laptop to see what you guys are doing. Eva I'm glad you didn't quit after your avocado - that is determination!
I've been a juicing maniac today - oh my! I got rid of all my week old produce today and went to Sam's Club and bought $100 worth of new produce!
DH is hanging in there although he had a detox crisis at Sam's Club, all of a sudden he broke out in a sweat then got the chills, he looked like he was going to pass out for a minute but then we got to the car and he shut his eyes and took a nap, he was much better when we got home and drank more juice. He even tried oil pulling for the first time! AND we talked and he is planning on juicing through Friday then going ALL RAW for three months to give it a shot, you have NO IDEA what a big deal this is! His cholesterol was 307 when he had it tested last  and he has about 50 pounds to loose.
I haven't had any bad detox symptoms yet. I did oil pulling for the sescond day and dh tried it and my mom was going out today to buy sesame oil!
Anyway ... what I've had today changed a bit as I cleaned out my fridge. So today's menu is:
1 qt. carrot/celery/broccoli/beet
1 qt. grapefruit/pomegranite/clementine
1 qt. apple/spinach/lemon
I'll check back in before bed.

Oh Heather is your dh in for a surprise!! When my dh and I started this journey his cholesterol was 350 and his triglycerides were 480. He was on meds as the doctors were afraid he would have a stroke. He was a ticking time bomb ~ at 29 years old! AND, tall and thin. He is now off meds completely and is working on gaining some weight back. He's lost about 50 pounds (which was way too much for him) so his goal is to put on lots of awesome raw muscle (um, I'm not complaining :p ).
I've been primarily fasting but I have had the occasional bite of solid food when my blood pressure drops too much. Gots to take care of the littles too and I can't do that passed out on the floor! :D I still consider myself fasting as 95% of what I am consuming is liquid. Had some great homemade Kombucha today - so glad it can be part of my fast!!! YUMMY. Oh yeah ~ energy level today: HIGH. Even on no sleep. Life in the "fast" lane..... feelin' fine!

Oh Justine, tell me... is kombucha hard to make? I've been reading and looking at the products the past few days (I tried kombucha while on vacation last week - most people go to Disney while in FL, no not me....) I've read all the wonderful things it does and it doesn't taste bad, so I think I might give it a try, but dh is afraid I'm going to kill us all! LOL!
And I know what you mean about taking care of the little ones, I homeschool my two but we don't start back up until next week so hopefully I should be somewhat adjusted by then and dh is home until the 2nd.
I'm off to pour myself another glass of juice! :D
Heather
I just tried kombucha too! But I wasn't impressed enough to learn how to make it. ;) My friend who makes it was explaining about the sugar and the mushroom etc. verrrrry interesting...
Are you two not juicing as you go??? Do you prepare juice in advance??
justinesmith

My homemade kombucha is much sweeter than the store bought and I know it's fresh! It is so easy to do..... I really love it. You just need to be smart about it, keep things as sterile as possible. Oh deliciousness......
Eva ~ I have pre-made juices like orange and pineapple and I fresh juice the cucumber, carrot or apple juice. I am going to make some master cleanse here too.... right now in fact. :p

Are you two not juicing as you go??? Do you prepare juice in advance??
I am attempting to juice at the beginning of the day. I have a champion juicer and supposedly the juice is good if you drink it within 24 hours. My understanding is that how long the juice is good is determined by what type of juicer you use. I know drinking it immediately would be better but I would be juicing and cleaning my juicer literally all day, it's bad enough it's taking me almost 2 hours. But I'm not complaining, I want to feel better. I'm tired of feeling tired and no energy and full of mucus and aching muscles and can't breath because my pants are too tight... well, you get the point. Two hours is a small price to pay.
Hey ... delicate question coming up ... do you guys do enemas? Or as I was reading on the MC fast post they were referring to a salt water flush instead of enemas, do you know if this would work during a juice fast as well or benefits either way?
Heather
I pretty much never, ever feel constipated... so I'm not sure I would need to do an enema. I was reading a comment from Stina on another thread that hit home for me regarding the juicing, though... I may end the juicing at the end of the day today and switch to smoothies tomorrow so that I'm still efficiently pushing all of my extra baggage out the door. ;)
But the salt water flush... do you just drink it??? Or do you, er, do something else with it?
I guess when you juice for a long time, it sometimes becomes really important. I have had so much benefit from juicing just for these two days, though! And, depending on how I feel in a couple days, I may switch back for one more day or two after the two days of green smoothies...
TWO HOURS!?? I don't think I'm spending that long! My juicer's pretty easy to clean, though. Not so easy as cleaning a blender, but it's not so bad. I've been cutting in bulk, though. For example, when I had some pineapple and carrots early this morn, I cut extra carrots in half so I wouldn't have to do it again the next time I juiced. I stuck them in a big pitcher so the next time all I'd have to do is grab the veggies or whatever and shove them in the juicer. :D

Yes, it is my understanding you DRINK the salt water. Yes, my concern is that there is nothing moving things along and today I feel bloated and well, feel like I could use some help. I hate the thought of enemas and would much rather drink something even if it is salt water. I did a lymph system cleanse years and years ago that involved a salt water flush but don't remember the amount of salt to water.

Well ~ TMI ahead.... I tried the salt water flush and it does work. The key is getting the ration JUST right so it is the same pH as your blood and therefore moves right through so none is absorbed. I am a tried and true fan of colon hydrotherapy myself because it gets to the, um, hard to reach stuff that enema's can't. Also, there is pressure so it cleans the built up crap (literally) from years past. I've NEVER had a prob. with constipation and I couldn't believe what came out of me. :p O.k. there's my experience.... I promise not to talk about it again unless you ask. :D

Thanks Justine for your response.
Well, I am wrapping up day 2 and feeling pretty good. I know that as time progresses I will get more into a groove. It sounds like dh will be done with his fast at the end of tomorrow but did mention he might make it through the weekend. I'm sure juicing for myself won't be quite the tax on my time.
I find it interesting that in my moments of craving I am craving raw foods, not junk cooked food. I am very pleased with this mental shift. As I was preparing dinner for the rest of my family as I was tossing the spring greens my mouth actually started watering! I do believe fasting might be easier if I didn't still have to cook and prepare raw foods for the rest of the family. But I really want to be cleaned out and healthy. Ok, I'm starting to ramble ... off to bed with me.

Here is what blows my mind about fasting. I have so much more ENERGY. I was on the treadmill last night for an HOUR and then did the total gym too. I am a little sore today but not much considering I've not been on the treadmill in a few weeks. :o
I am also craving raw foods ~ my favorites like onion bread and eggless eggsalad (especially at lunch time when I have my kombucha) but aside from that I'm doing O.k. That cracks me up too.... you go vegetarian and you think that will be hard, then you go vegan and it makes being a vegetarian look like a breeze, then you go raw and you think how easy it was to be vegan ~ then you FAST and raw food seems like a breeze. It really is all just a mind game, yes?
Starting day three with the usual glass of 20 oz. of orange/pineapple juice.
PS Orange and pineapple sounds really yummy!!!

Justine, I'm curious about getting the pH of the water just right for a salt water flush. Do you have any idea about measurements of salt vs. water for that? I did buy some pH strips a few months ago, but it turns out I was spot on and not at all acidic, so I have no idea where I put the extras. :D
This is from "The Master Cleanse" by Stanley Burroughs:
Prepare a full quart of lukewarm water and add two level teaspoons of uniodized sea salt. Drink the entire quart of salt water first thing in the morning. Must be taken on an empty stomach. The salt water has the same specific gravity as the blood, hence the kidneys cannot pick up the water and the blood cannot pick up the salt. This may be taken as often as needed for proper washing of the entire digestive system.
O.k. so I was wrong, it's not p.H. ~ it's specific gravity. Sorry about that.
He also says: If the salt water does not work the first time, try adding a little more or a little less salt until the proper balance is found; or possibly take extra water with or without salt.
Hope that helps. I think I may try this tomorrow morning even though it makes me gag ~ blech! P.S. I understand what you mean about your mom... glad to hear things are a bit better. :)
Thanks Justine!!! I think I may try that tomorrow too! I do swish with salt water for a few minutes after I oil pull, so I'll just swish first then drink! ;)

Good morning! I am feeling pretty good today. But I have to admit I wish I had some of Justine's energy. I got my juicing done and that was the energy I had for now. So, now I'm sitting here reading all the encouraging words on these boards. DH woke up with a headache this morning but still juicing, my dad even mentioned that cherry juice is supposed to help a headache so he pitted and juiced cherries this morning.
Oh, and thanks Justine for the recipe for the salt water flush, I think I will be trying that tomorrow morning ... or maybe here in a little while when my stomach growls next.
Eva I'm glad you'll still be checking in :) . And have a green smoothie for me!
So, my juice for today will be:
1 quart carrot juice
1 quart apple/spinach/lemon juice
1 quart grapefruit juice

Ok, no excuses today. I woke up feeling good and ready to fast another day! I'm off to the grocery store but will check in later with my menu for the day.
Hey, is anyone else lurking around here .... anyone planning on starting a fast the first? How are you mentally and/or physically preparing to start your fast? Would love to hear from somebody :) .
Heather
Heather! That's great! You know... if you decide to fast for less than 21 days based on what's happening with your body, there would be no shame in that!
And I bet your husband got a lot out of fasting with you. :)
Justine... I tried the salt water cleanse, but I only did 1/2 quart since I was already doing my usual morning routine. I had already had a cup of hot herbal tea and oil swished for about 30-40 minutes, had two (TMI UPCOMING!!!) very healthy BMs... THEN I had the salt water. It wasn't so bad at all. I did immediately feel like I needed to go to the bathroom because my stomach turned in a funny way. But then I actually didn't have to go. So, we'll see if anything different happens. Maybe I'll try the full quart tomorrow and let you know how it goes then.
My green smoothie this morning is carrot tops, beet tops, pineapple and frozen banana. It's pretty tasty. I don't know if it's that I'm finally sort of on vacation, the juice fast, relaxing, or what... but I'm feeling very clean and at peace right now. :)
Good luck on your feasting today, ladies.

Wow, I actually feel GOOD today. I woke up without the alarm at 7:30 and got up and went grocery shopping, came home, put it all away then made juice and I STILL feel GOOD. I realize now that I was having a mental moment last night ...hmmmm, now that I think about it ... it probably WASN'T a good idea to be looking at raw recipes all afternoon - DUH! I am mentally doing good today.
So, my juice for today is:
24 oz. carrot/beet/spinach
1 qt. apple/lemon
1 qt. grapefruit
I was going to do apple cranberry (never tried it) but my cranberries had gone bad :( .
Have a GREAT day!

I am so thrilled I am feeling GOOD today. I've had bursts of energy to actually accomplish minor tasks around the house. The first three days I felt like I just wanted to stay in bed (and I did until almost 9:00am all three days!) and be quiet.
I'm guessing I might get some more fasting buddies as the first of the year approaches?
