Just make a normal smoothie with fruit and chuck a handful of greens in and blend. Mild ones like spinach are a good place to start!

My favourite is banana, mango, pineapple juice and spinach!

You can really make one out of anything. It is a great way to clean out the fridge. I am drinking one right now that is

Handful of kale
banana
2 kiwis
maca
waterI pretty much always put a banana in it and 2 cups of water.

As you learn what you like be aware that if you put too much collard greens or beet greens or turnip greens it gets a weird kick. I am sure others do that too but thats from my experience hah.

I LO-O-O-OVE Green Smoothies!!!:D

Basically, a green smoothie is made with about 60%fruit and 40% greens (although I prefer mine reversed!) and pure water or fresh juice.

The ultimate sourcebook is Victoria Boutenko's book Green for Life.

Mine usually involve 1-2 bananas with as many greens as I can stuff into the blender, a little agave, and 1/3- 2/3 cup cashews (I prefer mine thicker), with about 20-22 ounces of filtered water. I try to vary the greens as much as possible. I use organic baby spinach at least a couple times a week, supplementing with: kale, swiss chard, parsley, collard greens, mustard greens, romaine lettuce, spring mix, etc. I go through at least 2-3 lbs of greens a week!

Savory green smoothies can also be made using non-sweet fruits (tomatoes, cucumber, etc).

Check out VeganforLife's posts. She is the ultimate green smoothie expert on this board!

My favorite green smoothie ever:
4 clementines
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 cup chopped romaine lettuce
1/3 cup dulse flakes
1/2 cup cold water

I like this smoothie because it is both sweet like candy and slightly salty at the same time. Sounds weird, but it's really good! The seaweed has good iron in it and gives the smoothie a purple color. If you don't have dulse you can also use nori sheets or dried kelp.

I love smoothies - and mainly use almond milk as my liquid. Is it best to use water instead when using greens?

In terms of food combining - technically it's better to use water (since fruit should only be eaten alone - greens are the exception).

HOWEVER, I'm sure almond milk would taste good in the smoothie too. So if you dont have any digestive issues. Go for it, and see how you like it. I think I may even try that tomorrow! :D

Nut mylk is absolutely wonderful for making Green Smoothies. It makes it a really creamier textures. I use water most of the time, but once in a while do the nut mylk OR even use a carrot or beet juice base. Experiment! It's fun!

Food combining doesn't matter with GS's as the food is blended (cell walls broken down) so one's body can assimilate it quicker. It starts going into your system the minute that smoothie hits your tongue. They are so very beneficial to one and compliment the raw food diet so well.

Check out the "Two Words" thread for a list of greens and their benefits of adding them to GS's.

Also do a search for Green Smoothie recipes. I know there are a few good threads floating around.

Why re-invent the wheel (again)? Also - may I suggest reading Victoria Boutenko's "Green for Life" book. THE best book on Green Smoothies. She thoroughly explains the wondrous/miracles of them.

The search key is really a powerful tool on this forum...;)
it's how I learned so much - really!

How many ounces of green smoothies are you all drinking per day? I have been drinking 2 large smoothies every day for almost 3 weeks. One all fruit 14to 30 ounces in the morning and a green smoothie (with fruit), in the evenings 14 to 30 ounces. Is 60 ounces of green smoothies too much - especially since I am trying to lose weight? Since I've been drinking them I only eat one meal a day (100% raw most days), and I snack a little on raw snacks. Otherwise I am just not hungry and I am losing weight - I can tell by my clothes. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to lose weight quickly I just want to know if I am drinking too many ounces of smoothies each day. Thanks.

I can only drink about 16oz. of green smoothie at a time. Maybe split it up into drinking 16 oz at a time 3-4 times a day instead of just all at 1 time. If you feel good, and are loosing weight to boot....hey, go with it!!!

My favorite smoothies are 2 different kinds:
fruit (with spinach, bananas, blueberries, cherries - all frozen)
and
savory (spinach, tomatoes, avo, coconut oil, garlic, chili powder, cumin, and any other veggie..like celery or cucumber!)

I LOVE GREEN SMOOTHIES, AND THEY MAKE ME FEEL GOOD!!
