Hello all my new Raw friends... first I want to say how wonderful and supportive and lovely you all are :)
I have been eating about 75% raw based on what is in my Fridgie already... now this weekend is my first Raw grocery shopping excursion  and I need some help because I haven't gotten Alissa's book yet...
So peeps... I'm hoping you can give me some recommendations for some good core items to buy to help me go Raw for the next week until I'm able to read Alissa's book.
I really really appreciate any advice and recommendations.
Thanks everyone! I wish you all good health and happiness :D

You'll start to get the hang of it after about a month, but here is what I do. Buy staples, easy things like: apples, avocados, bananas, lettuce, olive oil, lemons. I know I will eat and use all of these items. Then I seem to add one new item per week that seems appealing to me. Like a new fruit or vege and they change every season so it keeps it interesting. I also try to figure out one new recipe per week. My latest is: pinenuts, carrots, jicama, olive oil, a little raw salt, tweaked in the food processor and later wrapped in romaine...delicious. One week there I was into raw nuts, raw almond butter, and agave, decadent, all my co-workers were talking about it. Make sure you get some agave. You will figure out which raw staples will work best for you ie: raw soy sauce, agave, braggs liquid amino, lemon pepper (and now organic lemon pepper) are all very necessary for me. Oh and I have to do fresh mint tea at night. It saves me. Have fun on your journey!

great advice there dialmeacoconut! another great idea is to eat pretty simply until you get Alissas book... do a search for snowdrops 'ranch dressing' and you can use that to dip all kinds of veggies in it... or use it as a salad dressing....
You will find all kinds of amazing recipes on Amberstorms blog - she shares some very unique combinations, vibrant colorful - affordable recipes ... and Snowdrops blog is filled to overflowing with some fabulous recipes!!! talk about an adventure AND A PARTY in your mouth!! :D
Those two blogs are a couple of great places to get some recipes from... to add to your shopping list along with your staples.
oh... and a good rule of thumb... when trying new recipes.... make 1/2 recipes just to make sure you like the dish... rarely -- and I do mean rarely... there was a dish I didn't care for - and I was so upset cuz I ended up wasting a lot of nuts and they are expensive!!
You will LOOOOVE Alissa's book - it is so filled with recipes that will RAWK YOUR WORLD! :D

Alissa and I give some great advice about starting up on Rawkin' Radio #1 I think it is (http://rawcast.rawkinradio.com/2007/03.aspx).
What I say is ~ find 2-3 entrees; 1 or 2 desserts, take a couple of hours twice a week and make those. Keeps life simple and you'll always have something to eat in the fridge.
I always have various greens, nuts and seeds in the fridge and keep fresh fruit including tomatoes, cukes plus bell peppers on the counter.

oooo! Out of curiousity, revvell, do cukes and bell peppers keep longer on the counter or is there another reason for keeping them there? My mom always told me to put tomatoes there, and taste-wise, it's a no-brainer. Is it the same for cukes and peps?

And load up on what's on sale! That helps me keep the budget in control.
For a while I would just buy EVERYTHING that looked good. It got quite expensive. While I would love to be able to afford doing that, it's just not practical for me.

I dunno. Read somewhere they "should" be kept on the counter. I think the cold fridge tends to draw the freshness out of them faster. Could be wrong. Anyone know?
