Hi. I found this website the other day while looking at all kinds of things for inspiration and help and found this site somehow??? Anyway I had some time tonight to come back and look around a bit:)
I am also from the West Michigan area. I am a homeschooling mom of 8. I have 7 boys 19-6 and one 2 1/2yro little girl. I had gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy and needed insulin shots. I also had some extra complications from too many c-sections that meant that I had to have more surgery when she weaned at 1 1/2. Now that a year has passed I am finally ready to make some healthy changes.
My family is not making these changes with me, but I have been trying for 4 weeks now and I find that it is really hard some days so I hope to gain some support here:) as well as learn. I can not say I have had a 100% raw day yet but I am drinking lots of veggie juices and eating mostly raw, weekends tend to be my hardest times though for some reason today was too.
I would also like tips for encouraging children to eat raw too.
nice to meet you all.

Aloha and Welcome to RFT TALLEY!! Rawkon ... I'm so glad you found this site and decided to make some healthy changes in your life ... FOR YOU. And yes... you will get a lot of support here... but no worries about your family too... once they see how you are changing... and they see how healthy and happy you are becoming.... it will peak their curiosity... they will start asking questions and in time - they will decide to make changes in their lives too!!

but the important thing is -- you have decided to do this FOR YOU!!!

so ~ sooo glad you are here!

rawk on and enjoy the ride!!

Hi Talley,
Welcome and you have come to the right place. Try not to be to hard on yourself. If you fall off the wagon, just dust off and get right back on. Your children (the young ones) will want what they think you are enjoying. When you are really enjoying what you are eating, ask them if they want "a little taste". That will get them everytime. With the older children, tell them that they can't have any and then try to hide it. They will either beg you for some or eat it when you are not looking :D The key is "They have to believe that you LOVE it." If they think that it is a struggle for YOU, they will run for the familiar. Hope that helps!

Welcome Talley! So nice to meet you!:D I love Lucky lady's advice- that will probably work!! You just have to be the example, it seems to work for most everybody to some extent.

Welcome to RFT - i love Michigan! I went to school there and then lived there for a few years afterwards - I miss it! Sounds like you have a full plate - and raw is a great way to serve it up! The best way I think parents can teach their children healthy eating habits is by being a good example - so you are taking some great strides (in my humble opinion). Welcome welcome, let the inspiration begin! :D
