View Full Version : Questions
Bear with me as I'm totally new at this!!
Here are my questions.
1. Would steak cooked rare be considered raw? (sorry I know most of you probably don't eat meat but I'm new and am trying to sort it all oout)
2. what about canned 100% juices with no sugar added? Is that a live food or does it die off in the can?
3. Dates? yay or nay?
4. frozen preboiled but not simmered vegetables (they are brought to a boil before packaged to freeze)
Thanks!

1)This is a raw vegan board. So to us, raw steak is not considered food. There are others out there, however, who do eat raw steak. But any nutrition in steak can be found in whole fruits and veggies.. and this way you will be avoiding all the harmful chemicals and proteins in the steak.
2) Fruit juices in a can.. definitely not raw. Most fruit juices in a can or bottle are pasteurized. Make your own juice from fresh fruits and veggies and you will see how much better it tastes!
3) Dates are awesome! Go for fresh medjool organic dates at your local market.
4) Frozen veggies - fresh are definitely better. You can never really know what they did to the veggies before they packaged them. There are some people who use packaged frozen corn and such.. but I recommend just using fresh veggies.
Hope I helped!

Look up Carol Alt. She does meat and dairy, but considers herself a raw foodist.

1. well... technically the steak is raw -- yes.. however not on the menu of any raw foodist that is following the living on live foods plan as laid out by Alissa. We are raw vegan -- no meat, no dairy. But like Amber said - there are others out there that do things a bit differently - you just have to find the path that works for you.
2. canned juices .... hmmm.. I think fresh juice is always best - the nutrients are vibrant and live.
3. Dates - yes -- many raw foodies eat dates or add them into recipes.
4. some recipes call for frozen corn - I get mine at the hfs - organic and frozen. but for the most part - I try to use fresh veggies when possible.
and don't ever feel embarressed to ask any questions.... that's what this forum is for!!
rawk on!! :D
