Aloha Rawbies...
looks like my 4 hours of dancing in the rain during my hula testing and graduation.... opened the door for me to come down with bronchitis and I'm borderline pneumonia.
so - I'm not sure if I should be feeding my body raw vibrant foods or if I should be fasting.??
any ideas? http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/thinking.gif
I've been eating mostly salads, I'm craving grape tomatoes which I am eating my the handfulls... and carrots and cucumbers. But i was wondering if it might be beneficial to fast or maybe have some savory green smoothies. (I cannot do fruit smoothies -- fruit allergies and all...) but the savory gs I can do.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My chest hurts, it's still 'tight' and I'm coughing (ouch)... my fever comes and goes - but today it seems waaaay better.
thanks rawbies... http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/sick.gif
oh - and for those that didn't see the pictures of my hula testing -- if you check out my blog (the link is below) the pics are there! Aloha...
oh... and one last thing.... I'm pretty sure this is from being in the rain for four hours... but it could also be partly detox because we are required to eat a ceremonial meal.... which included some very ... 'unraw' and unconventional foods.... I can't tell you everything about the foods -- but what I can tell you is.... Hula is the art of dance - interpreting everything we SEE, SMELL, TOUCH, HEAR and FEEL (as in desire)... so a ceremonial meal would include 'things' to represent these um....areas.... is that enough information?? needless to say - I had a hard time keeping the food down... aaaccckkkk.... so... some of this might be detox too....

The first things come to mind are peppers and ginger! Chapparal and Marshmallow root are good for clearing the lungs. As for food, listen to your body. Eat what/when you feel like it. Do you have any herbalists you can go to there?
Feel better!!!!

I would say follow the instincts of your body. Try to cooperate with your body's signals. Your body knows best. There's a very old Chinese saying that I try to live by:
"Wise is the person who cooperates with nature"

Thanks Amber and EZRider... I'm still stuffing myself with grape tomatoes, baby carrots and today -- it was BROCCOLI... BROCCOLI... AND MORE BROCCOLI! very strange - but I'll just relax and indulge myself!
I'm also drinking water with lemon juice and cayenne pepper... While we were going thru our testing -- we were limited with the amount of water we could drink... THAT WAS THE HARDEST TORTURE of All!!! Cuz I drink A LOOOOTTTT OF WATER!!! I loooooove water!!!
I appreciate your advice!!

Starfire, First of all I hope you fell better soon.
I truly believe your body will crave what it needs.
Since I was a child I always craved OJ & olives when I was not feeling well & still do to this day. I would say listen to your cravings, but if you don't feel like eating...water & plenty of it! Besides, you mentioned that water was forbidden during the ceremony so you may be very dehydrated.
Feel better my friend!:)

Starfire, I LOVE the pics of you - you are smokin' hot. Personally, I'm always ravenous when I have a bad cold. What about salty miso soup with green onion? Alicia

Warm bath with eucalyptus esential oil, 1 cup baking soda and 1-2 cups epsom salts to help draw toxins out
Rub cayenne pepper inside your nose - ouch! Get ready for some draining! You can also put some in your bath, but don't go under or get it into your eyes.
A nice cup of very warm tea (still raw) or very warm water with fresh squeezed lemon.
Oil pulling has taken my cold symptoms, tooth aches and headaches away within an hour or so. I was skeptical and surprised!
Good luck!

As you know StarFire I use to live in Hawaii too and I also took many classes to learn how to Hula. One of my many talents! Your inspiring me to think about taking another class. Really want to take a ukulele class with my mom. Hopefully one day I will be able to drag her down there. Love those visions of you doing 'The Little Grass Shack in Hawaii'.
Everything I'm reading online (including the Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar book) says to fast when your sick or at least once a week. I'm sick too right now (koinky dinky), don't feel like fasting, but am eating very simply, mono as others like to put it. They suggest the ACV three times per day diluted with water.
My body is wanting to rest. I couldn't even get up to go shopping. I must be very sick! LOL! Even if I'm sick I'll shop. Resting too next to a pear, an avocado, and a laughing giraffe!

thanks rawbies for all the great ideas! and your sweet comments about my photos!
dailmeindacoconut... funny thing is ... I don't even know that dance 'little grass shack!'.... ... i never even realized that until you mentioned that song!! how hilarious is that! :D now I gotta find someone to teach me that dance!!
For the rest of the rawbies... hula lesson 101...
There are two styles of hula -- Awana - a more modern slow swaying style that is done to modern music, ukuleles, guitars etc.... often sung in English and hawaiian both ... then there is....
the ancient traditional style of hula (called KAHIKO) which is what we were tested on. It is only chanted in the Hawaiian language, and the music that accompanies the dancer is hand hewn drums from a hala tree, or kilu - coconut drum, worn on the thigh, Ipu gourd (again - hand carved) or ili'ili (river rocks), kalau (sticks from tree branches), Puili (bamboo sticks) and uli uli - gourds with seed and a head of feathers. All ancient traditional implements - all made by the dancers.
and now... I'm off to find some ACV... accck.... drink it with water huh dialmeindacoconut... ??? oookay..... !!

StarFire, I hope that you feel better very soon.
I treat all (or almost all) ailments with homeopathy. If you have access to any remedies, Aconite is for colds/ailments that come on with exposure to cold air, such as rain (even if the weather is warm). The sooner that you take it, the better/quicker the results will be.
Happy hula-ing!!! (You really do look great!)

Aconite is a homeopathic remedy. Some remedies are prepared from plants, some from minerals, and some from animals. Don't worry. Not a single molecule of the original substance remains in a homeopathic remedy that is of potency 6C or higher. How the remedies are prepared is facinating. Here is some good info:
www.homeopathic.org/whatis.htm www.homeopathy-soh.org/about-homeopathy/what-is-homeopathy/
www.homeopathyyes.com/article_1001.html
Most hfs carry the remedies. Usually they come as small white pellets in a small vial, perhaps 2 drams. Standard Homeopathics, Boiron, and B&T are some common brands.

"Warm bath with eucalyptus esential oil, 1 cup baking soda and 1-2 cups epsom salts to help draw toxins out"
I like the sound of that. I use e-oil directly on my sinuses and it really feels good ( but the fumes sting the eyes for a bit:eek: ) And it is great in the shower also. The steam always give me at least a moment of relief.
And I drink a lot of airborne. Lots of herbs in there, but it is not raw I am sure.
I also got so much more rest slightly elevated from the waist up, like sleeping on a pile of pillows with a heat pad under my upper back and lots of vicks smeared on my chest and for some reason my feet (covered w/socks after) (this was before I discovered the eucalyptus oil, of course....) Laying flat was so smothering for me when I was ill with all that sort of stuff. And I just had pretty much fresh OJ then, but you can not have fruit, so just keep doing what you are doing.
Hope you feel better soon and have a good sleep tonight. xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxooo oooooxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxxo

can you believe that? so - tonight - I will make sure that I'm elevated... thank you soo much tigger!!! also the epsom salt... got some and I have t he bath water running right now...

I read in my psoriasis book that its important to eat foods high in mineral content like kale after the epsom bath b/c it will pull certain minerals right out of you along with toxins. (I forget which ones, but kale and other leafy greens where the ticket.)

regarding the Master Cleanse....
Was watching the Today show this morning, and in an interview with a gal from google, the master cleanse diet was listed as one of the top five googled items.
Just find it interesting to see it mentioned so soon after seeing the item. (I am easily amused, I guess!;) )

I hate to say it, but The Master Cleanse is a big favorite with young women/teenage girls who think they can drop a quick 20lbs overnight. It's also really popular with people who have eating disorders. I belong to some other health related forums and I read about it all day long. It's a little scary.

jeez louise, Starfire, you poor baby. I hope you feel better soon! I myself would fast, probably; or consume maybe some oranges, and fresh ginger/lemon tea. definitely leave out the raw fats. And drink LOTS of water. I mean like 8-16 oz per hour.

First things first...I SWEAR by Airborne!!! I was getting sick last week, felt the achy body sore throat coming on. I took Airborne 3x and the next day - FINE, like it never happened. I use this as a preventative 1x a day on business travel and it has worked like a charm (vs. before using it and I'd get sick often). It might not be raw, but I'll do what I can to stay free of those nasty viruses we can get from other sick people!
Other options -- I consulted my Juice Book (Complete Book of Juicing) and it says...
Bronchitis & Pneumonia
Immune Power Vegetable
Orange Aid
Kill The Cold
Additional Recommendations: Goldenseal and Vitamin C (up 1g/hour)
Immune Power Vegetable
2 cloves garlic
1/4 inch ginger
handful parsley
4 carrots
1 apple
1 cup Jerusalem artichoke (aka sunchoke)
~Place garlic/ginger in center of parsley and push it through with a carrot then alternate rest of the ingredients through the juicer.
Orange Aid
1/4 pineapple with skin, sliced
2 oranges, peeled
Kill The Cold
1 inch slice ginger
1/4 lemon with skin
1 cup warm/hot water
~Juice ginger and lemon, add it to the water, optional add nutmeg or cardamom.

Pooor you - i am sorry to hear that you are not well (((((:)))))) HUGS!
I think it is a combination of both - hula rain and hula not exactly politically corect food - detoxification.
I don't know what works for you - when i am not well i focus on lemon juice with warm water and agave or honey -to keep fluids, strenght and vit C working and lots of green juices that you can stomach with addition of ginger or garlic - e.g celery parsley cilantro. Garlic is antibacterial and ginger helps with various things, if you have green sage handy and oregano - try it too.
Lots of fluids should help with tight chest... but most of all avoid anything that you are allergic to because your immunity system is already under a lot of stress. Hope you will be better soon - rest and think about beautiful things!

Dear Starfire,
here is another remedy. My husband recently had walking pnuemonia which I researched alt. treatment for. The two that came up a lot were Sambuca (elderberry) and collodial silver. I got both, he took the C. silver (supposed to work as well/ better than anti-biotics) and, voila, in less than a week he was fine. And he did not turn silver!!
