Ok, So I have both right now, but they aren't the best. I can afford to splurge on one high-quality item. I'd like to make either green juices or green smoothies a staple of my diet (not raw gourmet meals, or a blender would obviously make the most sense), but I can't decide!!! HELP!!!

probably the blender, but I'm purchasing green juice from whole foods 4+ x/week...

Well, my choice is always VM first; juicer second. Hard to tell someone else to get yet my feeling is the VM is much more versatile.

hhhhmmmmm... I DO want the fiber with mah veggies, so...... will have to think some more, but I definitely am leaning towards the Vitamix...

Without question get the VitaMix or other high powered blender. I have everything and if I could only keep one it would be the VM hands down.
I use my VM a minimum of twice a day. I use the juicer once a day. The VM is a nessesity (for me) the juicer is not. What I use my juicer for I could just use water. I (personally) dont believe in straight juice because of the higher sugars with no fibers.
In my VM I make; green smoohties, whole juices, muffins, cereals, dressings, puddings, flours and meals, crackers, soups. . . I cannot make all those in my juicer!
Have a look at my green smoothie thread with yummy photos to help you with your decision.

All the best,

PS: I also have a coupon for a VM for $349 if you like just email me and I will send it to you.

rawchickster,
This is a decision I've been struggling with for awhile now as well. I have a blender and an old juicer that doesn't juice as much as it should so don't use it often. I love juices and often want to buy them at the grocery store but none are raw so the odd time I'll whip up a drink in my GE blender and use a strainer to get a juice from it instead. Then use the pulp in the dehydrator for a recipe later on. I too want a Vitamix but want the new 5200 which isn't available in Canada until February so may get the juicer in the meantime.
eachpeachpearplum,
I see you have the Breville in your juice photos. What model do you have? Does it juice greens well like kale? Have you tried wheatgrass? I like the fact that Breville is super fast and you don't have to chop much but you don't have the option to juice wheatgrass and make nut butters. Now I know if I had a Vitamix it wouldn't matter so debating on the Breville type juicer or the Omega 8005 one. Then I read a website that said it was a waste to get a juicer. So now I'm confused all over again. Decisions, decisions?

Just to clarify, I don't ever (well, rarely) make fruit juice, it's always green juice, without sweetener, or just 1/2 an apple. But still, those smoothies look sooooooooo good, EPPP!! Decisions, decisions......

I think it would depend on how you eat and what you eat. I use the VM everyday, multiple times and rarely drag out my champion juicer. I don't have enough room on my counter to keep it out and even though it works great I don't use it very often. I do drink green smoothies(with lots of greens, carrots, etc...) often and also make almond mylk every other day, avocado pudding, ground seeds and flours, dressings, fruit sorbets, etc... For me the foods I eat are made in the VM...If I was focusing on juicing multiple times a day I'd get the juicer.
But...can't imagine being without the VM now that I have one.

I was just thinking  . You cannot really buy a cheap version of a VM right? Right. But you can get a cheap juicer that chuggs along and get the job done. I had a $40 juicer for years!
Sooooo you could buy the spendy blender then when your juicer bites the dust go out and buy an inexpensive or moderatly priced juicer! Tadah problemo solved:cool: !!!!

I would get the blender. I do not have a vitamix (can not afford right now), but I do have a decent blender that works just fine and a cheap juicer that I use each day.
The thing about a jucier is the nutrients go straight into your system, which is great. I also have read that the better the jucier, the more nutrients you get out of it. I also read that if you do use a cheaper jucier you need to consume it right away. Then a good blender or vitamix has so many great uses.
So if I were you I would get the blender and a cheap juicer for now. Then get a better juicer latter. Just my opinion. Good Luck
