Hello,

So today is our daughters 3rd birthday. For a couple weeks now she has been talking about how she wants a chocolate cake. I mean, never ending, non-stop, two year old chatter about a chocolate cake. My mother asked her what she wanted for Christmas and she said "a chocolate cake" I asked her what she wanted for supper for her birthday meal and she said "a chocolate cake" What do you want for your presents? "a chocolate cake" You get it. So I made her one. This was a SAD cake. (My family is not raw, we are working on it but I am the only one 100%, and I don't have any raw cocoa or carob). I kept thinking in the back of my mind that I really should just make her a raw cake but she was so insistent about that "chocolate cake" that I just couldn't do it.

So, we had supper. I serve the cake. She doesn't eat even half of her piece! "I don't want the cake" she says.

My 7 year old didn't eat the cake either, said he didn't like it. My 6 year old complained that the frosting was too sweet and scraped it all off. My 4 year old said he didn't like the cake and pushed it away.

Now, here is the kicker. Last night I made myself a raw cake so that I would have something to treat myself to. I gave all the children a piece of it last night. They all ate it all up and thanked me, I repeat THANKED ME, for making the cake and giving it to them. They loved it!

My 10 year old daughter said that while she liked the SAD cake she thought the raw one was better and fresher tasting.

How cool is that?

That is amazing! Children instinctively know what real food is.

Last year I was having Christmas Eve dinner at my brother's house. He and his wife have two children. I was sitting next to the older one, who was almost 3 at the time. The family were all eating the traditional cooked foods, and my brother's family is big on meat. I was eating a fruit salad of mango and raspberries, and a green salad. My niece completely ignored her food and dug right into my fruit salad with her hands, eating away and clearly enjoying every bite. My sister in law asked her to stop, and to get back to eating her meat. It was a real eye-opener for me!

Thanks,

I remember, before we went raw, having my children sit at the table and eating meat and they never really liked it so much. My third child in particular could never chew meat well and never wanted to eat it. It's like they instinctively know not to eat meat, but we force it on them until they think it is normal.
Bizarre eh?

sweet story. very cute.

Last year before we moved here we went to my bil&his wife's house for a pool party. Lots of kids. Lots of food. Pizza, chips, pop, stuff like that. My other SIL and BF were there as well. When I came I brought a giant bowl of fresh melon/berries, etc. The kids chowed down on it and my SIL's bf said "finally, something fresh in the house!" And when they came to our place for dinner he was thrilled to have fresh fruits and veggies and something w/o a lot of salt and cream , etc. (bil/wife like to entertain and be all gourmet/cooked -- makes a person feel miserable, heartburny all the time)

Thanks for the story. Gives me hope!:D

Goodbye, SAD cake. Hello RAW! What wonderfully astute children you have. Keep up the great raw work.
