So... I have always loved to go running outside for exercise, but recently I have decided that I want to train for a marathon. I don't have a particular one in mind or a specific time frame that I want to aim for.

Is anyone an experienced runner or has anyone completed a marathon?

I am working now to increase my miles in preparation, and I wanted to know what a good realistic goal is in doing so without pushing myself to hard and getting injured... right now I am running about 3 miles a day, 3 days a week. Should you aim to increase 5 minutes a week, 10 minutes a week??

Thanks so much for any input!! :D :D :D ... and I'm off to go running now! :D

You should do several races before a marathon. 10k, 15k, half marathon.

Running this distances in a race will better prepare you for the rigors of a marathon. Preparation is the biggest factor in the successful completion of a marathon.

There a many great marathon training plans that can be found on the net for free.

Thanks for the input... I should have mentioned that I will be working up to a marathon doing several 5Ks, then move to 10ks, half-marathon etc. before I even attempt doing a full marathon... I'm in no rush, just eventually in my life.

I'll have to start searching the internet for training guides.

Thanks again :D

you look pretty fit in your photo..you got the marathon build..

marathon aint hardcore..but if we want to run fast..thats a different story. you look like you should be able to run sub3 if you did the miles.

check out www.runningraw.com tim is a raw vegan runner..

doug graham taught me how to eat, train and recover...now im doing 50km training runs in the mountains just because..

have good shoes, drink enough, eat sufficient fresh fruits, get enough sleep..

typical days food for me is around 30 to 40 bananas or equivalent fruits. plus some tender greens. no overt fats..except when im in thailand for durian season..lol!

I've also interviewed Tim Van Orden of runningraw.com. You may wish to listen to that and, get his newsletter.

Ruth Heidrich, age 72 is also a raw runner. I've interviewed her, as well.

I'm sure they'd both give you some advice if you email them.

Mindylee

Go onto runners world site (www.runnersworld.com). They have loads of schedules for all abilities and all distances. When you've worked out where you are go to the smartcoach section and put in your data and it will work out a personalised training programme for you.

Good luck

The Rock n' Roll Marathon here in San Diego was a lot of fun. Remember, "slow and steady wins the race."
