Ok.

The patch of eczema on the inside of my ankle is so swollen, the tissue is so traumatized, that my entire ankle is swollen. It's about the size of a pack of cigs and goes from my ankle back to my achilles tendon and around to the other side. I've been treating it with raw apple cider vinegar in water, which stops the itch, but.....now I have a deeeep crust of dead-looking gray scab and split skin that won't close. I can't walk properly because of the scabbing and tight skin, as well as the split. Sorry if this sounds gross! I keep thinking the scabbing will heal, but it isn't....

I was trying to tough it out, but I just can't. I need a Rx to heal this. I can't even tie my shoe at this point b/c of the swelling. I'm discouraged to feel I have to go this route, like it's a kind of raw foodist failure, but the discomfort is too great. I can't walk around with this for weeks or months. It's actually even draining me of the enthusiasm to continue with the raw path b/c I'm in such distress from it.

Bummer. :(

I don't know how others think on this site, but it's my belief there is a time and place for good ol' fashion western medicine. I mean what would you do if you landed in the ER, bring a bunch of kale and demand to be sent home?

I've been trying to heal my body with good, natural foods for a while but damn, if you know when you need a doctor!

Be ok :)

So true!!! If I broke a bone or there was something I just couldn't fix with food... I'd go to the doctor.

Of course, it seems like raw food's already fixed ALL of my chronic problems, so yay for doctors when you need 'em and raw when you don't! :D

Thanks for making me smile, you guys!

And thanks for being voices of reason!

Yeah, I'm definitely going to the doctor--and keepin' on with the raw, too.

Now...do I want to deal with telling the doc about the raw food? But that's for another thread. ;)

Very true. Been there, done that. Kale sure doesn't repair compound leg bone fractures...at least not initially. :o

Best wishes Rawsweetie, I hope you feel better and heal strong.

I probably wouldn't go down that path unless you suspect something you're eating is giving you grief. Unless you have a progressive doctor, they'll probably think you're on some fanatical binge and make you feel bad about raw.

I used to be a pharmaceutical rep (please don't boo me :( ) and met with hundreds of doctors. Most are very good at what they do, but what they don't do is practice a lot of preventative medicine outside of what anyone can find on a box of Special K cereal. Medicine (in the US at least) is a reactive science

right about the time I started my raw food diet quest, I came down with the worst case of flu I have had in ten years. I am trying like heck to get better, so like you,I have lost some of my energy, but I am going to just keep trying, and hopefully this flu will subside soon. Best of luck to you on healing up. mkz

The best doctors in the world can't help you with the flu :( UGH that's just the worst. Last time I had it I was laid up for two weeks.

Hang in there!

so, to update:

i had somehow sparained my ankle while running a little, so a trip to the ER last night addressed that. The doc wasn't sure what to make of my rashes, so he prescribed an anti-itch cream and, of course, a steroid cream for the eczema patch *sigh*

i'm grateful fo the prescriptions at this stage and now i feel like i can recoup and keep going with my transition. :)

making my zig-zaggy way here, folks.

Good idea on going to the doctor.
When something won't heal after many attempts it usually isn't good.

My mom had what she thought was a spider bite on her elbow. It wouldn't go away so she finally went to the doctor and she had a STAFF INFECTION!!!!!

Scary stuff.
