View Full Version : Winterish Green Smoothie Ideas??

Hi all. I haven't posted in MONTHS because I sadly got off the raw wagon a few months ago when I had a tooth pulled and decided to opt for the luke warm soups and afterwards I caved in to a Qdoba craving and I just wen downhill from there and even gained back the 14 pounds I had lost.

SOOO, here is my problem. I want to start getting back to green smoothies for now (I want to do kind of a green smoothie challenge with only green smoothies) but I need ideas for winter. In summer I made them with greens and added FROZEN fruit because I prefer the texture and it was perfect for hot summer days but now that it's almost winter and in the 30's here I need something geared for this time of year. I want to do just fresh fruit but some of my favorite fruits are out of season and not available or just Too expensive! (I can NOT always do organic and in season). Plus the idea of strawberries/strawberries and stuff doesn't appeal to me this time of year. This is when my body wants wintery things. And definitely NOT cold!

And any other wintery raw ideas would be great if I decide that I am tired of smoothies and want solid foods. I have NEVER done raw in winter. Thanks in advance.

Mint and anise always remind me of winter for some reason. Also use some left over pumpkin, almond milk and all spice for a nice Autumn smoothie.

Unless you have an aversion to them, you could make savory smoothies, which you could add warm water to, and enjoy them as smoothie/soups... You could even spice them to your liking, like say, a mexicana-green smoothie, but without fruit, just good chili spices and greens like spinach.

Mm! That actually sounds like a good idea! I never really experimented much with veggies when I us eto make them. Maybe that's why I got burned out. I will definitely try that!

And Mint and anise are two things I really do not like but I have thought of cinnamon as it's a Christmasy flavor I love all year round!

Thanks!

Looking for more ideas!

One thing I do is take out the frozen fruit like blueberries so that they thaw. I also will put them in the dehydrator for an hour or so. That way they will be warm before adding them.

I also will take my greens and other ingredients out of the fridge hours before I am going to make one. That way they come to room temperature before I make it.

Pears are delicious and in season :) I usually strain the smoothie/juice when I use pears because of how gritty the flesh is

I made a pumpkin pie smoothie with coconut milk, pumpkin, agave nectar, and pumpkin pie spice. I would think that adding some peppermint and/or raw chocolate would be nice.

Could you turn the green smoothie into a soup by adding beets and carrots and onions with chile peppers like borsch?

Try adding a piece of ginger root; it's very warming to the body and it increases circulation..... Delish :p
