Tips to keep the bugs away

Since going raw I've had a few major bug infestations, particularly fruit flies. Two things that have really helped are 1, an umbrella type bug screen to put over the fruits & veggies I keep on the counter and 2, storing my grains, seeds, & nuts in mason jars and vacuum sealing them with my FoodSavR.

Any other tips that have worked for you?

Refrigerating or freezing everything works best. Stuff that needs to be kept out like bananas I will put in double thick plastic bags overnight.

I've been wanting to inquire about fruit flies as well. My daughter suggested soaking the fruit for about 10 minutes before putting it out. (I love having it out on the counter looking pretty and healthy and inviting). The soaking seems to have helped somewhat, but some of that may be that it's not summer any more...I'd love to hear more suggestions that allow for keeping the fruit out.
