I got my hands on maca for the first time and not knowing how much to take, I probably put in a heaping teaspoon with raw cacao for a morning beverage. Man, did I get wired! too wired. Three hours later, coming down off of it, I had to pull my vehicle over and take a nap.

Am I just ridiculously sensitive? How much do you take? And I'm single and do not need the problem of an increased libido!

Heh heh...Stina! I'm with you on the "no need for libido boosting"! I usually use 1 tbs. per day in my green power smoothie...I don't get that "wired" effect from it though....maybe I'm desensitized!!!

I think it's the cacao that gives the 'wired' feeling. When I mix it with maca I'm up all night (can't sleep, I mean, don't get me wrong!)

Funny, I must be without sensitivity! I put a Tbls of Maca in my green smoothie and feel nothing from it at all. I also don't notice anything from cacao. I've even mixed them in a chocolate shake and don't feel any increased energy or wired feelings. I must be the wierd one!

Yeah, quite a lot of people experience adverse effects with maca when they eat too much. It's an effector of the hormone system and can give people night sweats etc.

But as someone else said, it could also be the cacao, but if you've had that with no ill effect before then probably is the maca.

I never seem to get these reactions from maca, cacao etc. how sad! I want to see some kind of effect sometime, I'd love to have a replacement 'drug' for coffee!

I'll up the dosage in my smoothies one day and see what happens, my partner had a reaction to one of my maca/cacao smoothies yesterday. When he drank it, the whole inside of his mouth hurt like hell!

i was putting a few teaspoons of maca in my morning smoothies, but then my nails got really brittle and thin and my skin wasn't doing so hot either. on the advice of bryan yamamoto on another raw food board i dropped the maca and my nails are definitely back to normal, skin seems better too. and i just feel better, more present in my body if that makes sense.

everyone is different, but i realize now that i am highly sensitive to stimulants (coffee was the monkey on my back for YEARS) and will use maca in small quantities if at all (and certainly not daily).

and i will third that comment about being a single woman and not needing any libido boosting, thanks very much. ;)

I've gotten the wired feeling from too much cacao but never maca. We are each so different in what effects things have on our bodies. I use a T./day with no ill effects.
