Persimmons

I had my first persimmons on Thanksgiving and it was weird - then i thought maybe yall could tell me what happened. It was like I had velcro in my mouth after eating it - my lips stuck to my gums - it was awful! Is there a proper way to eat it? I removed the skin and the top with the stem and just ate it. Did I eat it improperly? I believe it was a Fuyu persimmons, when I was done washing my mouth out I definitely said "Foo you, persimmons!"

There is a permission thread already alive..in the recipe section..

But I am thinking it wasnt ripe, that variety needs to be nice and ripe to not have the bad mouth feel
