Please help! I need to know what type(s) of seaweed this salad is comprised of, it's a life or death situation!!! ;) My search here told me it is wakame, is that all? It seems to be more than one type. Web search told me they are usually made of a prepackaged mix, i ordered a seaweed salad mix yesterday but i don't think it will be the same thing. If anyone has tried replicating this infamous japanese seaweed salad I wll be indebted to you for the info, you can have my first born even!!:p

what follows is the child of boredom and desperation:

edited to add: Yes, the photos don't do either of us justice, but i don't think anyone wants to see videos of us dancing and me singing love songs to the salad (i have a terrible voice) ;). so these will have to do, sorry they aren't the best of quality

okay Yana - don't want the firstborn but thanks for the offer -

Seaweed Salad contains: Wakame, Kombu, Agar Agar, Green Nori and Red Seaweed (i think the Agar Agar is the clear looking sea vegetable).

Check out Goldmine Natural Foods for neat stuff.

it looks like wakame
but
i have to say,
i dont think its raw. ...

raw seaweed is very dark green-black,
and when its toasted or cooked,
it turns that vivid green colour.

Thanks Eva, aililiu and blaqberry! :)

Eva- haha, i hope so too!

aililiu- that's what i figured as well, that it can't possibly be raw with that color, sadly :(. i am hoping to make a raw version, at least, just get close enough to that combination of sea veggies

Really cute pics.

I bought the Sea Tangle brand Mixed Seaweed Vegetables (6 oz package). Just checked the bag and it does not say "raw" anywhere like their kelp noodles do. I am going to email the company and ask.

It comes salted and contains: Seawood papulosa (blue, Red), agar-agar, Seaweed stems, Seaweed fusiforme (hiziki), seastring (verrucosa), gufuweed, kelp, montagne, salt.

The only thing I think that is raw is the raw nori, which you can conveniently buy on Alissa's website. I (big confession here) eat lots of sea vegetables even though they are not raw because they are so good for my sluggish thyroid. Rebel that I am.

Hi I already e-mailed them and they say that they are raw :D

ooo Yeshia, that's fantastic! I'm just sad it comes salted. I ordered another brand, don't recall which, but when it comes i'll definitely post about it.

I have a 50 count package of raw nori that I'm going through quite nicely :D

Thank you for your responses!!!!

Hey there -
great pics!
The asian stores have lots of fabulous looking items like the seaweed salads and kimchi and other "preserved" and fermented products - and besides them almost all being cooked, there is MSG in pretty much everything. I have checked extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area stores. :(

Hehe, thanks! I am sure it isn't any different here :(. Heartbreaking, no? Our county seems to ruin everything! haha + :(

How do you know if nori is raw?

I have no idea on this stuff.....

My wakame and arame are raw. It said they dried them in the sun and packaged them.

And they taste like it, lol. Seeweedy.
