I have a friend who I recently found out has a number of serious health problems -emphsema, diabetes, cholesterol problems. He's determined to heal his problems naturally. It sounds like he's trying some sort of diet involving whole grains. I was thinking about sending him a book on raw food and/or natural hygiene. What do you think is the most persuasive book on the subject?

Alissa's book, no doubt. It gives alot of good information and some testimonials on how people have changed their lives. Also, it gives help on menu planning and alot of good recipes for delicious food.

Still waiting for Alissa's book to arrive in the mail, so I can't comment on it, but I'm sure it's awesome. I would recommend:

Your natural diet : alive raw foods / T.C. Fry and David Klein.
Living Nutrition magazine / David Klein
The China study / T. Colin Campbell
The 80/10/10 diet / Douglas Graham

Shazzie's books are very inspirational - just seeing how alive she looks is enough for me!

I also love Karen Knowler's books - she comes across as really level-headed and well-informed.

Alissa's and Buotenko's "Raw Family" are the books that get me really excited about raw food.

the one that really did it for me, especially in terms of healing, was Victoria Boutenko's "Raw Family." That really inspired me. Also, I love the info in David Wolfe's Sunfood Diet Success System (though, this one is a little touchy-feely), and Alissa's book for all the best recipes. Good luck!

The 80/10/10 Diet by Dr Douglas Graham

I haven't purchased this b/c it's expensive but am curious as to if he talks about how to GAIN weight and does he recommend still eating 80/10/10 for weight gain? I'd definitely be more interested in buying if he talks about how to gain b/c I really need help.

Wouldn't it be great if we could do a book exchange/sale? Of good books other than Alissa's (which I totally want to keep). For example, I enjoyed Green for Life very much, but I am done with it. I read it twice and copied the cool chimp diet chart :-) but I would trade it for a different raw book. I would love to get the 80 10 10 one but it's $30. Yikes. My library only has Juliano's Raw, which was worth checking out but that's about all, imo.

I just had a similar idea this morning...what if we could do a raw book library, where we could "check out" books from each other and it would only cost postage? I can't afford to buy every raw book I want, but I'd love to borrow them from others.

Also there's this http://www.paperbackswap.com/index.php which is similar to your idea. Maybe not many raw books on there, but could be...who knows

On bookmooch.com, you can set it up so you only trade books with "friends", so you could set up something like this using their software. :)
