I'm 57 yrs. old and retired from law enforcement. I was a die hard cook with a library of approx. 600 cookbooks. I just treated myself to a new convection oven before my blood suger spiked for the second time. When in the clinic I filled out a questionaire that asked. "How many servings of fruit and vegetables do you eat in a day? I took to long to ponder that question. Then my docter asked me how I wanted to spend the last third of my life. Did I want to spent every week going to clinic? I didn't ponder that one.
I have been on raw for just 4 days and my adverse symptoms that I went into the clinic disappeared. My blood sugar dropped and no more napping. My handicapped son has also gone raw. Its increased his awareness level and he was telling me how his supervisor commented on his increased speed at work. I believe that anyone lacking health insurance coverage should contemplate a raw lifestyle. I posted on a non raw site that those without coverage should at least shop in small butcher shops, farmer markets and buy locally from local farms. P.S. don't let the law enforcement bother you; it hurt me worse. I also believe that eating raw is a beginning to train our children of the bad effects of our present food industry and hopefully they can change it. I really liked the statement that the wonderful aroma of cooked food is the smell of the nutrients excaping. Anybody use a convection oven for a dehydrator. This was my first year as a beekeeper and I got 13 quarts of honey out of my hive and the bees really did a great job of beautifying the area.

Hi Craig! Nice to meet you!!!:D Wow, what amazing results after a few short days! For you and your son! That's a huge leap you made, from a die hard cook to a rawbie. Amazing! Glad you're feeling so much better.

My aunt & uncle are beekeepers and I love having an inside source for raw honey!;)

It's astonishing to me, the way the food industry does things. I want my girls to be educated about it. They're 3 and about to turn 6 yrs old. When they do watch tv, they actually believe the commercials. UGH! Fortunately, that rarely happens. Not much good for them to see on that thing.

And we don't have health insurance. You're right about raw and health insurance. I couldn't agree more! :D

I love that quote, about the aroma and the nutrients, I'll have to remember that one!;) I used to love cooking.

Glad to have you here, and best wishes!!!

Wow Craig your story is amazing. It is wonderful how Raw foods can provide your body with what it needs to heal itself.

I'm not sure about the convection oven but for a short time I had to use my oven as a dehydrator, I bought an oven thermometer and it helped me watch the temp of my oven, but it takes way to much time watching the stove, so I finally got a dehydrator.

Glad you joined us!!

Forgot to add, those 600 cookbooks could be of benefit to you. You can probably turn most of them into raw recipes.

Sounds like your on an exciting adventure....raw, uncooking now, your son, beekeeping etc. I hope you post in the other areas about your bee keeping. I wondering how difficult/easy it is. I would love to have honey for my family. Loved the thought about why cooked food smells so good - nutrients exscaping into the air. Hope you enjoy it here.

Hi Craig, it's great to have you with us and what you say is very interesting.

I use a fan oven -- which I think is the same as a 'convection' oven? -- instead of an dehydrator. I've been raw for 3 years now and haven't found the need to buy a dehydrator. I bought an oven thermometer instead and keep a check on the temperature -- works a treat.
