Remember the "Good old RawTimes"

My kids and I finally decided what we were going to make for Thanksgiving dinner "which will be all 100 percent raw" for the three of us. We are going to eat our first raw dinner with relatives while they have their traditional dinner. Then at night we are going to have a great celebration with the three of us and do another Thanksgiving dinner with our mock turkey loaf, raw stuffing, raw cranberry sauce, raw avocado pea salad and raw fudge for desert.

My daughter made a comment about how she wanted to get all of my recipes so that when she has kids she can relive the memories of our dinner. That got me thinking, that maybe it's not so much the cooked traditional thanksgiving dinner that people crave, but the memories of old times they want to relive. Thanksgiving is a day when everything slows down, and family is around helping you prepare dinner or sitting around the table and talking while things are being prepared. It's a time of re-connecting with people we love and passing down traditions that have come down the family tree from generation to generation.

As a first generation 100 percent raw foodist I took a pledge in front of my kids that I would stay 100 percent raw the rest of my life, so I could be around to teach my grandkids how to prepare raw foods, and possibly my great grandkids. When the family sits around and relives old Thanksgiving memories, they will be raw food memories. The cycle of S.A.D eating will be broken. Then when it comes to Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving the next generation won't have to stress about explaining their diet or defending their diet. They will look forward to sharing it and all sitting down together to eat it.

The key is, is that it starts with me. As a first generation raw foodist I'm going to have a great RAW Thanksgiving Dinner so that the next generation can, and the next and next, and next......

Peace to all of you, and hope you all have a blessed Thanksgiving Day.

as a mom of an (almost) 5 year old SAD vegetarian kid, this message really hit home to me. granted, my daughter is eating more raw foods now than she has in the past, but i don't put a heckofalot of effort into uncooking because i'm personally pretty happy with simple stuff. but kids palattes are different, and they are not motivated to change by health arguments... it either tastes good or it doesn't to them. (my daughter is so funny, she usually tastes whatever it is i'm having and diplomatically says "i LIKE it mom, i just don't want to EAT it right now.")

at any rate, i am slowly coming around to seeing that going full-hog (juicer, dehydrator, etc) and involving her in the recipe selection and preparation might be the way...

thanks for a glimpse into a better way of life!

What a beautiful pledge. I think your committments for a life of healthful foods and healthy lifestyle are just lovely.

All the best to you this, and every season,

Beautiful! It IS the memories that make the difference. How awesome will it be to be raw and instead of taking a nap after dinner we can play and feel good?!? I LOVE it! :D

:) This is a beautiful message.

I am going to be 100% raw tomorrow. Right down to the organic sulfite-free wine I'm bringing. My contribution is a cranberry salad (see recipe section if intererested), and a fresh green salad. The hostess said she'll not cook the fresh green beans she has. How wonderful it is to be supported by friends while at the same time I'm not verbal vomiting all over them the benefits of raw food or the hazards of SAD.

Here's what I consider funny. My husband, my ever-supportive loving husband, bought a free-range turkey to contribute for the feast. The hostess is preparing it. Deep frying it ! Even for a traditional health food 'nut' that is going for a healthier lifestyle ... isn't that an oxymoran ???
A free-range turkey that's deep fried? hee hee . All I can say is bonapetite !

And so, a new SELF-TRADITION begins. Who knows what next year will be like for me and my husband (who eats everything I put in front of him while he continues to eat the way cooked foods and meat).

Thank you for the great thread. How awsome to make a verbal commitment to your family--what a great gift to them and to yourself.

My resolve has been tested lately, but staying the course. Do not crave meat, but the mashed potatoes are my nemesis. Anyway, I have been planning an all-raw dinner for myself for a couple weeks. Was invited to two SAD dinners and one asked me to please bring my raw--just join them. After I've accepted, they moved the dinner to their brother's house and I don't feel they would be comfortable with me bringing my raw lineup. Need to politely decline and celebrate the day on my own--more of a stress-free zone.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I love this, This is so great! Yes, I will be 100 percent tomorrow and for the rest of my life. Wait!! I do drink hot green tea and hot lemon water...does this matter? I bought some candy cane flavored green tea, and it sounds so great in this cold weather.

Thanks so much for sharing this positive news. I'm joining you, if the tea is O.K., that is.
