im 22 and have hairs along my jaw bone, chin, neck, and side burn area. some are light and some are dark. some are short and extra long. i pluck some and it feels stubly. why? there has to be a way to fix it right? its ruining my life. im self concsious about it all the time to where im depressed and hard to hold a job. im not very raw but was at one point long enough to see some benefits but this was never one.

Hey seedling....I don't know, but I found a link that may be somewhat helpful for you...
Hirsutism (http://www.dundee.ac.uk/medther/tayendoweb/hirsutism.htm)
Also, have you thought about lasers? Hope this helps, and my heart goes out to you.

I really feel for you. A lot of people don't realize how badly excess hair can affect people's confidence. Like Shell said, laser might be an option, if it's really that much of an issue for you. If you're ok with the chemicals, you could try facial hair removal cream, or you could try sugaring for a more natural way. Hope you resolve this!

seedling, that is a hard thing to deal with. I am an esthetician so I do a lot of facial tweezing and waxing for females, many many women have this. Our society is just prone to not talking about this, its normal. BUT, I know you want it GONE! I recommend not waxing chin area because it can cause MANY ingrown hairs due to the curve of the chin. invest in Tweezerman tweezers (SLANT nose) they will PUll the hair out and not rip the hair...you want to see the follicle on the end of the hair after you tweeze...be sure to pull the hair in the same angle it is growing so it doesnt rip or break. hope this helps and laser would be good for any of the dark hairs.

Is there any chance you have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)? Excessive hair is one symptom.

Hi Seedling,

I understand what you're going through! I had many treatments of laser hair removal on my face (jaw, chin & sideburns) and it made all the difference in the world. I don't believe that raw can help with this (although I could be wrong). My understanding is that once hair starts growing somewhere, it will continue to grow there unless you get a type of hair removal treatment that is permanent (electrolysis or laser).

Go raw for the health benefits, but know that you will probably have to get a hair removal treatment if you want the hair to go away.

Hugs to you. :)

Could be a hormonal condition. Id mention it to the doctor too, but if they just shove pills at you then obviously dont just take them without research. Goes without saying though really, im sure we all know that here:)

Hope things work out for you

Good luck:)

How are your periods? Do u have acne? excess weight??
Excess hair is definatly a sign of PCOS...I have it myself, so know all about it! I've never tried anything except just tweezing! I tweeze abunch everyday. But continue w/raw..cleansing from the inside w/healthy raw food and maintaining a healthy weight will help normalize your hormones and may not completely stop all the hair growth, but u will find less and less!
There's also prescription creams u can get from your dr.....they are very expensive and i didnt notice any difference in them....there's also prescription oral drugs if u are not trying to conceive, but have never tried those, so dont know how that helps! but if u are against taking prescription drugs, just keep up w/a raw diet and tweezing!
But remember, u're not alone!

i have pretty bad cystic acne ... not much excess weight and what little excess there is is from depression and emotional eating. periods are not regular and never were. one about every 3-6 months. i have had my hormones tested before adn were told they were normal. even if they are normal cant they give me a female hormone...when male hormones and steriods are taken they get deeper voices and more manleish right?

It really sounds like u have PCOS. You really dont have to be overweight. Before i got married I was a normal healthy weight, but still had all the symptoms, no periods, acne, facial hair came later though, increased as the weight came on. Most of the time, people arent diagnosed w/PCOS until they realize they cant get pregnant and start doing fertility checkups. I was diagnosed early because i was always in the Dr.s for irregular heavy periods. They put me on Birth control pills which normalized alot of all my symptoms. The reason is because w/PCOS, u have an imbalance of hormones, which means we have excess male hormones, testorone, which causes the cystic acne, facial hair...ect....
Alot of primary care dr.s do not know what to test for, if i were you, i would have them check for PCOS, which would also include checking your insulin levels.....another huge symptom of pcos is being insulin resistant......You would need to tell your Dr. this so they can test u for that. Drugs such as Metformin (which helps lower insulin levels) and also Birth Control pills, will definatly help your symptoms, and normalize your periods.

Try really hard not to get too stressed....thats another culprit w/pcos....our moods and emotions are so out of control. Exercising everyday helps lower testoterone levels and exercises such as pilates and yoga helps reduce stress.

Hope this helps.....keep your chin up though, i know exactly what u are going thru. Try to stay positive, and stick w/RAw....it helps in so many ways.

I agree with Crystalight you might have PCOS. I have PCOS and some of the hair issues you mention, but Raw has really helped tone it down a bit. It would be good to be tested for it.

I have also heard of it just being natural for some women and there is no PCOS or imbalance, they have a medical term for it but I can't think of it right now.

I think the name of the condition is called hirsutism.

http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/home/common/hormone/210.html

I have had the problem for a long time. After the birth of my third child I gained a lot of weight and started growing hair under my jawline. Even now 100 lbs less I still have it.

i have slightly darker hair on my tummy and am extremely embarrassed about it. I've never worn a bathing suit, tummy-revealing shirts, low rise jeans without a long enough shirt...

it freakin' sucks man.
it really gets to you after a while, eh?

I have this too! In a line going down from my tummy button, like men usually have. And you know...i LOVE wearing bikinis, bathing suits and tummy-revealing shirts! Everyone can see, but no-one has EVER made a negative comment about my body, but i get compliments all the time!

I guess what im saying is dont be a ashamed. I think this is quite common, and you shouldnt have to cover up. I bet youre just beautiful, get that bikini on and show em what youve got:D

I can totally relate to you. I brought up the issue with my docter. It is one of the symptoms of imbalanced hormones. She would not test my hormones. She just waved it off as early menapause symtoms. ( I am 38.) I have had the issue since my late twenties and had finally gotten up the nerve to mention it to her. Wish I could laser it, but it cost more money than i have at the moment. I can understand your fustration and depression. It is extremely embarrassing, especially around beautiful people.

I have had the same thing going on for about the same amount of time. I was also told that the cause was imbalanced hormones, but came back negative when tested for PCOS. I am hoping as my body heals from the traumatic stresses I have been through in my lifetime, that my hormones will come back into balance and it will stop. For now I tweeze and shave alternately.

Here for you anytime:) It's a frustrating thing at first, but I really do feel that in time, this sort of thing can be righted.

I have this problem, too. I have adrenal fatigue. My hormones (when tested at the doctors) were in check. I use this

http://www.amazon.com/Emjoi-AP-9T-Tweeze-Tweezer/dp/B0007CXQUW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1196795616&sr=8-4

and it works the BEST (I've tried waxing, shaving, and electrolysis). I bought it relatively inexpensively at Walmart. It doesn't get great reviews there on amazon, but it is totally worth it!

Hopefully being raw will eliminate the need for it soon!

Good luck!
