The acting in this movie isn't the best and gets off the point some of the time but other than that it is pretty informative. Pretty gross stuff, i knew about the mistreatment of the animals, etc but seeing it is totally different. I cant wait till supersize me comes out, maybe that will inspire more people to eat living foods.

Yup. Fairly brutal.....and focuses a little more on the mistreatment of migrant workers......of the beef industry. Read the book for a better picture. Fatland is also a good book - from the economic and media position.

i really liked fast food nation.... even though the scenes when they killed cows was..uuuuf gruesome to say the least- i appreciated them showing it AS IT IS. And seriously- i thought about all the horror humans do to animals and ..well that' a big negative collective karma right there... i never looked at meat the same way..then i found raw;)

Its got a couple of sex scenes in it and use of drugs. If you want him to go vegan go to goveg.com and they have short movies that show mistreatment of animals, etc. They also have recipes for children. Hope that helps

Supercharge Me and Supersize me are fine for kids. I don't recommend Fast Food Nation or Eating (another great documentary) for kids. They are bit more on the graphic side.

i was a vegetarian for years, and had seen plenty of peta propaganda films on animal cruelty. none of it could make me give up dairy products and eggs, however, i always thought the "free range, organic" thing got me off the hook.
then a friend sent me a link to the movie "earthlings" (narrated by joachim phoenix). something about the way the material is presented and the overarching argument about how we as humans are absolutely utterly dependent on the use of animals in every aspect of our lives and the moral repercussions of that really hit home. i watched it one afternoon and have not had the desire to touch dairy/eggs since. i really GOT IT.
not for the faint of heart. if you can't watch it, just turning off the visual and listening to the narration is powerful enough. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1282796533661048967
my daughter is 5 years old, and certainly not ready to watch such a thing. but someday she will be, and i feel like i'll know when that time is based on her interest and maturity level and ability to assimilate the information, not on a numerical age. as a mom, you KNOW your kids, so watch anything first and "feel" if its appropriate for them. she is vegetarian, eats dairy products and eggs at her dad's house. i don't want to force anything down her throat, but we do talk a bit about animal rights issues when she brings up the subject. mostly i just ask her how she feels about things and sometimes tell her what i think, always making sure to couch it in an "everybody's different, and that's okay, but here's what i think now" framework.

maui_butterly, good God i could only handle about 4 minutes of covering my eyes watching this in tears. thank you for the reminder why i stopped eating meat when i was 15 years old after seeing a similar, but not as graphic film.
in the past i've said to family and friends that i don't mind if they eat meat around me - that i'm an open minded vegan. that's a big fat lie. i do mind, especially after watching what is actually taking place in slaugherhouses. now i have the strength to tell them how i really feel if i'm ever asked again. and i don't care if they feel uncomfortable or guilty around me and i will make no more excuses for my lifestyle choices either. THEY SHOULD feel uncomfortable and guilty because it's horrendous what we're collectively doing to animals on this planet. Everyone who buys an egg, beef patty or pork chop is just as guilty as the murderer in the slaughterhouse. And that's how I really feel about it! Phew, thanks for letting me get that out - it's been hiding out in my heart for years.
Peace.

maui_butterly, good God i could only handle about 4 minutes of covering my eyes watching this in tears.
i know, pretty tough to take, huh? i consider myself a pretty tough bird, and i literally FORCED myself to watch the whole thing (i had to take lots of breaks to get up, walk around, discharge energy, cry, etc.). but i felt like i wanted to know what was REALLY going on, like i owed it to the animals to witness their suffering or something, because there is such a mass refusal to truly see... it sounds strange, but that was the feeling.
THEY SHOULD feel uncomfortable and guilty because it's horrendous what we're collectively doing to animals on this planet. Everyone who buys an egg, beef patty or pork chop is just as guilty as the murderer in the slaughterhouse.
it took me a few days to assimilate the information, release anger and sadness, and move forward in peace. everyone is just at such varying levels of AWARENESS. to my mind, there's no guilt, just awareness and no awareness.
how do you spread awareness? be a beacon, and not a hammer. i believe that increasing your own awareness brings the collective awareness level up, so the relentless pursuit is the most important way. as always, eyes on your own paper, this is a test!

Thank you for posting about Superchargeme.com. I hadn't heard about it yet and enjoyed checking out the video clips and other information on the site. I will definitely be looking for this when it comes out. I watched the video showing the coleslaw recipe and had to try it. I made it last night and took it to my mom's for Thanksgiving and everyone loved it. So thanks again for mentioning this video.
