Hi,

I try to make carrot juice every day. I find that it really helps me with hunger and cravings. I make up a bunch in the morning and put some in canning jars, filled to the top with no extra air in it, and drink those later in the day.
The other day I made up my usual carrot/apple combo in the morning and placed it in canning jars. Later that day when I went to drink it their was this strange looking white milky looking stuff. It was in both canning jars. The jars were clean and I have never had this happen before. I didn't drink them and was dissapointed with the waste.

Anyone have any ideas as to what this was and why it happened?

TIA

Hey Tia ~ it sounds like mold to me. I'm glad you didn't drink it (I made that mistake once. NEVER again). Maybe the jars weren't air tight or maybe it was a bit warm in your house? Eeeks. Wish I could be of more help. :o

I try really hard to eat everything as fresh as possible. A lot of times that isn't convenient and sometimes down right hard. But I feel so strongly about the benefits of FRESH raw that I just do it regardless of the extra effort involved. Good luck.

I hear you, really I do. But I have 6 children and I homeschool. I simply can not juice more than once a day and I am lucky if I can do it that often. I just don't have the time. I am not only juicing for myself but for my children as well. They love it. Which is great. If I don't juice all at once for the day, then I don't end up drinking any. If I have it made up, I'll drink it. It is as simple as that.

I have been scouring the web looking for any info on the white stuff. Oxidation would have made the juice turn brown, or so the web says. I can't find anything about white on top. I find it hard to believe that refrigerated juice molded in one afternoon. It seems like maybe it was something else; I'd only be making wild guesses, but I can't imagine it being mold. No offense to anyone else, it just seems unreasonable to me. I may be daring, but I probably would have stirred it and gulped it down!

I'm with you 100% and I only have two littles at home! If I had the luxury of time to do things when I wanted to do them we'd eat nothing but fresh cut everything. As it is right now, as soon as we get something home I take the time to cut it up (or juice it, like my lemons) so that when I need it I can grab it. Take care and I hope you don't have to waste anymore of that precious juice!! :)

Thanks guys,

You know funny thing was, the white creamy stuff was on the BOTTOM and a little up the sides of the jars, not the top. It was so weird. I hope it never happens again! That stuff is like liquid gold! Too precious to waste.
