My boyfriend's sister is having the Turkey Day meal at her place, his mom will be there, etc. Should I not mention raw before hand and just bring a salad (would they think it was insulting to bring food? Another option is to mention beforehand that I am trying to maintain raw eating and ask if salad will be served... but I am also scared that will be considered rude (you knwo making them provide something special for someone who isn't even a family member!) I'm so confused... I just don't want to offend anyone yet would like to finish the day raw! Help!

I think that you should ask your boyfriend to take care of this matter and tell his family that you eat this way.
If you plan to keep him on the scene they are going to have to cope with it sooner or later.

Great answer Sport! I agree -- Its proper that your bf should inquire! and if yu plan on bringing some food for yourself... then he can also let his parents know that too. I really don't think theres anything wrong with bringing yourself some food, maybe even bring a little sumthin~sumthin to share so they can enjoy it too! ;)

You could also make a nice raw cranberry orange sauce....
and maybe a raw apple crisp

and a veggie plate.. and take it along?

Maybe an olive pate for the veggies
or a raw onion dip?

By the way, Alissa has the BEST raw turkey recipe in her book.
I can't remember what she calls it, but MAN oh MAN it is good and satisfies that "I need turkey stuffing" craving!

Rowan, is it the mock turkey loaf or the noasted turkey?? I was planning on making the mock turkey loaf to take to church tomorrow for the Thanksgiving dinner. Not sure if I have the ingredients for the noasted turkey (I think it may call for sprouted something--don't have my book handy.) I've never made either, so wasn't sure which to make!

Thanks everyone for the yummy sounding suggestions... I've been on a simplicity kick lately when it comes to raw... but I'm sure it would be fun to create some kind of raw cranberry sauce... :)

His mom and sister like me, and after I talked to him he said that his sister is always on some strange kind of diet so she would most likely be totally understanding of my situation :) cool beans!

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Terri, it was the Mock Turkey Loaf on page 392.
Oh my GOSH it was good!
The cranberry sauce on top makes it so pretty and it really tastes yummy.

The only change I made to the recipe was to use poultry seasoning instead of plain sage.

There are many good cranberry sauce recipes too:

Cranberry Sauce
by RoseLee Calabro

2 C fresh cranberries
1 orange
1 apple
1 C dates
water for consistency

Process cranberries, orange, apple and dates in a blender and serve.
-----------

Raw Cranberry Sauce

Serves 6-8

2 c fresh cranberries, ground
1 orange (washed to remove any residues) chop very fine including at least one half of the rind.
2 ripe pears, peeled and chopped fine
1/2 c. walnuts or pecans, chopped into pieces
4 celery ribs (stalks), chopped fine
1/2 c. organic raisins or dates (pit and chop dates if using)
1/2-1 tsp. cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice
1/4 tsp. each of ginger and allspice
1/2 c. raw, unfiltered honey or other sweetener (stevia)

Grind berries, chop fruit, mince nuts, chop celery and dates if using. Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
Cover and place in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Serve on a bed of leaf lettuce.

Option: leave cranberries whole and place in a saucepan with all remaining ingredients. Turn burner to low and simmer until thickened, stirring occasionally.

I'm so glad that you were talking about the Mock Turkey Loaf! I am planning to whip that up tonight--my dw just came home with the ingredients. Yay!!! Hope everyone at church likes it--just not so much that there's none left for me, of course!:D

I made a double batch of Alissa's Mock Turkey Loaf (fyi--would recommend that if you do the same to do two separate batches and combine at the end--it ended up not fitting in my fp and I had to run it through again and again in batches!) Anyway, I took it to church Sunday for our Thanksgiving celebration and people ate it like crazy!! Several asked for the recipe!

It rawks!!
