View Full Version : Transitions in being Raw Question (?)

I realize that when one is 100% Raw they go through several transitions and even periods when they expiate a large amount of toxins which can cause some side effects.

I am about 66 days 100% Raw and I am scared because of what I am going through physically. I am very weak, every muscle in my body is sore, and as of today I have experienced light dizzy spells.

I had been exerting myself earlier this week but I didn’t think it was enough to warrant the muscle soreness. My doctor confirmed this earlier this week. Emotionally and mentally I feel great, but physically I recognize that I am either going through a transition or am lacking protein. My doctor felt I was lacking calcium as well but for this I plan to start making sesame seed milk.

I am basically trying to find others that might have had a similar experience in their Raw Journey and what remedies help to minimize the effects. (?)

My diet consists of about ½ gallon of Green Smoothie almost daily and a mid-day salad almost daily. I constantly snack on carrots, beets, fruit, and assorted nuts.

Is it possible you might have a touch of the flu?

Yesterday I was fine.
Got up and went to class.
In the middle of my first class I suddenly felt dizzy and had a wave of nausea.
I came home and rested.
Today I'm fine.

Weird stuff happens when you're detoxing.
Ride the wave...

If you become VERY uncomfortable...or are in a crisis....you can try altering your 'normal' intake of raw foods......to do less combining....more mono/simple meals. Tip: You also need to be living your dreams........getting fresh air and sunlight....etc. One does not simply eat one's way into heaven! Just some suggestions/opinions.

It could be that you are detoxing some very deep stuff right now...

also....

Pay attention to your sugar intake -- carrots, beets and fruit -- are VERY HIGH in natural sugars-- and if you're using fruit in your green smoothies -- that's sugar...

Right around 2 1/2 to 3 months raw - I began incorporating green smoothies into my food intake - and I started getting dizzy, began suffering from other symptoms - one of which was an acheyness... I ended up getting tested by a homeopathic dr. and turns out -- I was have an allergic reaction to fruit! ... so that kinda sucked! Cuz I'm surrounded by wonderful exotic fruit!!...

but oh well...it is what it is! I shifted my foods to primairly veggies and all the symptoms stopped!

I dunno if this could be your problem, but it wouldn't hurt to do an experiment and see if you cut out the fruit - if you notice any changes!

good luck! and I hope you're feeling better soon!

David, Love your line, "One does not simply eat one's way into heaven!"
I might have to paint that on my kitchen wall somewhere.

Thank you for the responses, I really appreciate it. I am actually bed ridden right now. After doing some work, today I could not even stand up. I went straight to bed and took my temperature which is at 90.1.

For some reason I feel extremely cold and absolutely zero appetitie except for water. I have no doubt that I will be OK and will follow the advice I received above especially about the sugar intake.

Hi Tito im so sorry you are experiencing this...I am having ferocious detox symptoms too...flu, aches, chest infections, head colds, dizzyness, violent vomitting, suddenly getting floaters in my eyes (little black spots that are infront of my vision), tirdedness like ive never felt before, days of crying where i couldnt even tell you why, etc. In between this Im having days of huge energy & joyfulness. Its like Ive suddenly become bipolar in a mental & physical way!

Ive been wondering alot about this especially as I was violently sick after a raw salad of spinach, kale & leeks.
Im getting some digestive enzymes cos I think my body needs help learning to digest these new raw foods, especially the greens.
Also if im not digesting well Im probably not getting all the nutrients I need & maybe this is causing the fatigue.
As fruit is so easy to digest & something I ate alot of anyway before raw I reckon my body has no problem with digesting it so maybe this is what is causing me to have blood sugar imbalance type dizzy spells.
I never ate kale or spinach before raw so these are foreign foods to my body...especially in their raw unprocessed forms. Even in smoothies I am finding many of the greens bloating.

I know in time this will all sort itself out but in the meantime I need to be able to function on a daily basis & like you today I often end up having to spend a day ill in bed.

I hope you feel loads better real soon, please let me know how you are doing. I will post about how the digestive enzymes make me feel. Hopefully we can both find a way to be raw & well ;)

Thank you Crystalmoon for your kind words of support. I am finally moving around a little but still am very weak. My doctor insists now that I have a virus and probably muscle spasms. She gave me antibiotics but do not feel comfortable taking them. Part of me feels like this is a big detoxification period that we often hear about, so I am just riding it out.

Everyone I know is insisting that I have a vitamin deficiency even my doctor thinks I could be lacking Vitamin B-12 and D. Later this week I will receive the results of the blood work to finally show everyone that this is not the case, at least it will quiet down those who think I am going through this (alleged vitamin deficiency) because I am Raw.

Human life is indeed wondrous. You may be ill physically, but as long as your mental state is strong, it most certainly will exert a positive influence on your body. There may be no better remedy than hope. Ikeda

I hope you get better soon.

It really does sound like your detoxing, I went through a stage when everything in my body hurt, I could barely walk and then a couple days later I was full of energy.

Hopfully you are not B-12 or Vitamin D Deficient.

Hi Tito I spoke to my doctor today (I havent been able to leave my house cos am just way too ill/dizzy) he also thinks I have some virus infection & wants me to take more antibiotics. I havent told him Im eating a raw vegan diet...he just would not understand!!!!!!

When i first went to see him about 2 weeks ago I was coughing up nasty stuff & he said it was chest infection so I gave in & took strong antibiotics for a week. Literally the day after i finished the course the streaming head cold/chest thing begun again. I dont want to suppress it again if it is just a major detox/healing crisis. Im not sure if I will take the new prescription yet.
Hoping you feel better & stronger real soon. Thinking of you.

Im also having blood tests taken tomorrow

Tito and Crystalmoon--both of you mentioned that your doctors gave you antibiotics for viruses. But antibiotics do nothing for viral infections and are only for bacterial infections. I double-checked the web because it kept bothering me. Here is a quote from one of the articles--"Antibiotics do not work on viruses because viruses are not alive". I only have my own opinions from here on, but thought you should be aware. Google "antibiotics virus" and see for yourselves. I'd hate to think you are making yourselves more ill since you are suffering so. Much concern for you both. xx

Hey there Subu yes you are sooooooooo right, I thought it sounded not right when he prescribed them the first time but my head is so fuzzed up at the moment i didnt follow through with checking it out. A virus just has to do its stuff ;)
Thank you so much for posting this, especially as i am often allergic to antibiotics so i dont need to be putting my poor immune system under any more pressure.

Hi Tito...sorry you are so sick.I had it one evening into the next day.I slept all night til next day at 4. I felt better but seems to be lingering and finishing up. The aches, pains, nausea, headache ,crying and sadness and alot more.
I see alot of peopl ehaving sickness. Mine felt like allergy/detox but it also resembled some things others had.Who knows but I decided to ride the wave...haha and take care of myself,do what I needed to do until it passed and I was well.Even took today off from work(I have great employer) ,while realizing I am almost well, just to make sure I am.
Be well and know you probaly are getting all the nutrition you need if you are switching out your rawfoods.
