I made a Avocado & Kale Salad tonight from the recipe I found on this thread: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=29788 It was a big salad and I made it even though I wasn't hungry but I wanted to try out the recipe. I usually don't eat anything unless I get a slight hunger signal and certainly don't eat a lot with no signal so this was a rare situation. What happened next surprised me. A little while after eating the big salad I started getting cravings for more food and I kept getting the cravings for a long while. Now mind you I had just eaten a big salad on top of not being hungry when I ate it. I should have been satisfied for hours but I wasn't. I can't explain that ! The whole experience baffles me ? Any thoughts on this appreciated.

that happens to me sometimes. i dont feel that hungry but then when i start to eat i find more hunger

i think part of it more me is also a link in the past to binge eating,
which im trying to release,
i dont know if you ever had the same problem :)

I am actually the opposite.
I'll make a new recipe and love it - but I'll be full after eating 1/2.

you know i have the same reaction everytime i eat a big salad with lots of kale. i usually get full with salads and the other foods i'm eating and am satisifed for at least 3 hours. but when i add kale to a salad, i'm hungry a few minutes later. i don't have the same reaction when i use it in smoothies. hmmm.

For me, in the past (pre-raw) and sometimes now (though its happening less and less) I will be hungry without hunger and then as soon as I eat, I feel my hunger and I'm all "OMG, I didn't know I was even hungry!" My hunger signals are getting clearer, but it still happens sometimes - come to think of it, it often happens when i eat salads and greens (not in smoothies) ... perhaps its a sign I need more greens, or fruit ... hmm I'm not sure exactly what it means, except that my body wants to eat more ... its not a mind thing for me. When I feel full with raw food, I can't eat another bite without feeling it.

That is weird.. maybe it triggered some kind of 'wanna eat' signal inside you? Cuz you weren't really hungry - but you ate and it threw your body off a bit.... hmmmm....

but you know I never thought of it before - but when I eat kale in my salads... Im hungry again a short while after I eat it too.... but I usually want more kale. So - maybe there's some kind of nutrient in the kale that our body is needing - so it's 'reaching out' for something -- especially since you eat pretty intuitively anyway. Maybe your body was sending you a signal that it was needing some kind of vitamin or nutrient... http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/shrug.gif

My body does the same thing. I drink liquids (juice, smoothies, MC lemonade) up until dinner and I am totally satisfied with this. However, as soon as I put food in my mouth, my stomach wakes up and I am hungry all night.

Kale salad does the same to me. I am addicted to it. I started out with buying it allready made at the local co-op. Went from eating a med. size container to a large and now 2 large at a time to.. well now I just make it myself in huge batches and eat till I don't want any more. I find if I do that then I won't want it for a while, so I think it's something my body is just needing in the kale. I say heck just dive in and eat till ya just can't eat no more!!!

Do any of you think maybe the kale is hard to digest in an unprocessed state (in green smoothies it has been processed/broken down by the blender) so your bodies want more than one serving of it to get the nutients that one well digested serving could provide?
Im asking cos I was violently sick after a kale, leek & spinach raw salad & as I didnt eat kale or spinach cooked maybe my body doesnt quite recognise them yet?
Im going to try digestive enzymes to give my body a helping hand with the green stuff.
just wondering what you think?

I will do the same thing--start eating something when I'm not too hungry and end up eating way more than my body should want. I blame it on my taste buds. My taste buds have the power to make me eat alot of things I know that I shouldn't eat, besides eating too much at just one sitting. Once something tastes good to me--thats it. Never mind that I'm full, it's all about flavor.

Taste buds man---they have ruled my eating patterns for years!

EZ:
Just wondering if you have experienced this again? Have you eaten kale since this time?? Or had this particular salad again? And do you normally eat olive oil? How do you feel after having the olive oil?

Sorry, just curious.
