I started high raw in December and am approaching six months mostly raw -- the last two months at 100% except for stuff like miso and nutritional yeast -- so I'm taking stock of how it's going. Feeling good. Still detoxing great green gobs of phlegm out of my lungs but I guess that's to be expected after 30 years of asthma.

How my health has improved:

insomnia gone
chronic sinusitis gone
weekly headaches gone
PMS gone
asthma still here but getting better; off all but one prescription med
way more energy, working out much, much easier
brighter outlook on life

The other great thing that's happened is that starting next week I'm doing an apprenticeship of sorts at a raw restaurant near me. Two full days a week, so I will learn to make a lot of new things. The way it happened is that the chef advertised a raw food class at the local adult ed center. Only two of us signed up, so the class was canceled. I got her name and emailed her, and I asked her for a private class. She said sure, at $75 an hour. I was like eek, I can't afford that, how about if I offer my free labor in the kitchen in exchange for you showing me how to prepare this food?

She went for it, and it works out well for both of us bc now she doesn't have to pay somebody and I don't have to pay her.

I'm also doing yoga teacher training starting in August so that's great too. My yoga teacher is opening a new studio and wants to train a few of us new teachers to help staff the place, as well as teach in other places like hosptials and rehab centers. This is great bc I'm transitioning out of being a stay-at-home mom and I didn't want to go back to my old line of work (journalism). So perhaps this will turn into a new career. :p

All these good things in my life are as a result of going raw which has given me so much good health, energy and vitality. My husband, who is the ultimate junk food vegan (soy burgers and soy hot dogs every night) actually told me last night he wants to try raw, just bc he's amazed at the changes in my health, attitude, disposition. My son even mentioned to me that I'm a lot less grumpy than I used to be. So that's pretty cool.

Wow, six months! Great job, and great results!

I love how you worked out that cooking class, that was a clever suggestion!

Fantastic - great to see that other things in life are also falling into place...funny how that happens, isn't it? The interconnectedness of life...healthy body allows so many good things in life to come our way. I guess when we're unhealthy, we're too preocupied to notice them...

BTW, interesting about still coughing up "stuff" after 6 months...reassuring as I was thinking "when will this end!" (coughing up I mean...) Bit TMI??? All part of the process I guess.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :D

Way to go! It is interesting what happens in our lives, due to our change of diet! Good things just start happening, even if it may seem hard at the time.

Blessings.

How wonderful. What an accomplishment.

Do you mind if I ask you a few quesitons? Hopefully not, cuz here they are!! -- What kind of a difference was it in being 100% raw the last two months to being "high" before? I guess what I'm asking is -- did your mood, health, etc. improve more rapidly once you went totally raw. And ... do you eat miso very often? In soups ... or as flavoring ... and do you intend to avoid that too eventually?

Well, when I was "high raw" it was like 1-2 cooked meals a week (if that) not everyday. Bc I did a juice fast before I went raw I was used to eating lightly. I notice a difference between "high raw" and now but not much in terms of mood and energy. The problem is that it has become harder and harder to digest cooked food. . . the recovery time is longer, so it's really not worth the few days spent hungover (headache, insomnia, digestive issues) just to enjoy a cooked meal. The problem is that I can't eat the quantity of cooked food now that I used to eat regularly. Maybe if I added a tiny amount of cooked beans or rice or something to a mostly raw dish I wouldn't have any ill effects, but what fun is that? I'd rather just fill up on raw. :D Plus you avoid that slippery slope of gradually adding more and more cooked food. . . I could see myself falling into that easily if I opened that door.

I eat miso maybe once a week. For awhile I was eating it everyday to flavor my nori rolls. Then I overdosed on the nori rolls after eating them for lunch every day for like 3 weeks. . . now miso is an occasional pleasure. I don't intend to give it up completely though, bc I don't feel any ill effects after eating it (and I hope I never do, bc it's very tasty). I love miso soup with soaked wakame and green onions. A very comfy soup!
