Is there such a thing as raw oatmeal? (other than raw oats of course) If so, can you soak or sprout said oatmeal? Grains other than oatmeal are so friggin expensive in these parts, I'm hoping to be able to find some sort of grain based product I can soak and/or sprout for breakfasts.

We make it all the time. Here is the recipe from the book Raw Food Real World.

Spiced Oatmeal with Dried Fruits

3c. oat groats, soaked for 5 days, rinsing each day

1c. Maple syrup (I use 1/2 & 1/2 split with agave, I also use a total of about half cup sweetner so its not too sweet)

2c. golden raisins

1T. cinnamon

1/2 salt

2c. dark raisins

1. Soak the oats in water for 5 days, changing the water and briefly rinsing the oats at least once a day.

2. Drain all the water. In a Food Processor, pulse together the oats, syrup, golden raisins, cinnamon and salt until the oats are broken down and the mix is an oatmeal - like consistancy - as smooth as you prefer. Transfer to a bowl and fold in dark raisins.

- This makes a lot and last a good long time in the fridge. another way i do it is not to process all at once. I just leave the oats soaking in fresh water and take out what I need as my DD sometimes just likes the oats whole with the stuff mixed in. If its very cold weather I mix in warm water and set bowl I am eating out of into another bowl of very warm water.

Enjoy
