I just got my vitamix today. We have been anxiously awaiting its arrival since we pushed the send button to order it. First thing we did was make the almond milk that is needed for the caramel reciepe that was given on this site. I made almond milk with my prior blender but this chops up the nuts soooo much better. Then we made the caramel recipe. I make homemade caramel for my business so I was skeptical that it would taste like the real thing. It is pretty darn close (creamy and so very good!!!), and much much better than the store bought kind for apple dipping. That to me tastes like chemicals. Now I am going to try to make turtles!!! Next is almond hummus, my daughters are begging for some. I was waiting to receive the mixer now there is no longer an excuse for not making it. just wanted to share my excitement!!

Oh, I am so excited for you! I wish that I could get one. I think of one often when I use my blender for green smoothies and things. Enjoy :)

I wonder if Alissa would consider doing something like 4 easy payments of $90 or something like that. Every month you credit card is billed. That would help alot of us when it comes to the easy ticket items. Just a thought

jules88,
Where is that caramel recipe you talked about and the turtles one?

Awesome, you will enjoy it immensely! May I suggest you go freeze a couple of bananas so you can have banana ice cream tomorrow. You will love it almost as much as your Vitamix!
Enjoy, Alma
Ooooohhh, that is so wonderful! I've been thinking about getting one for such a long time... Did you know that the vitamix "warms" the broccoli soup? I tried that a couple weeks ago at Alissa's classes in Maine, and oh my!!! It could be worth getting the vitamix just for that.
So, how is it?
Is it worth every penny yet??? Tell us more!

I saved and saved for my vitamix and then when I went to the store to buy it, I walked back out thinking no blender could be that much better but I turned around and thought just do it. I've never regretted it. Their customer service is VERY good. I chopped the tamper thing you use to push down the food as it blends and they sent me out a new one and said there's no charge. They give every customer there first one free. I guess I'm not the only one to have that accident. They really stand behind their product, at least that's my experience...I wouldn't hesitate in getting one at all again.
I guess it's about time for me to JUST DO IT!!! :)

Hi Everyone,
I also just got my first VitaMix - oh my goodness - it really is amazing. If you squeeze it out of your budget, it's worth it.
And Eva (my buddy from Alisssa's class in Maine) - it does make a difference with many of the recipes. They go from being good to being incredible.

spicyfull,
Thanks for the recipe. I don't have Yacon but am guessing I can use Maple Syrup instead? Yacon is expensive here.
Maple syrup is not perfectly raw (so I guess it's not raw), but it's still in a lot of recipe books and would be a sub for yacon if you're okay with it. I use both of them depending on the recipe, and I have not had ill effects from either. :)
Oh, Alicia... I may just order the thing today!!! But we'll see. :)

I just got mine last night! I'm with you on the excitement! CONGRATULATIONS! I can't decide what to make first- other than the 3 green smoothies I've done so far!!
Man, it's an awesome machine! And for me it was a surprise too! I was going to have to do the 3 payment plan on their website (although I really wanted to order from Alissa). I was going to place that order tomorrow for the 5000 model, and was wondering if it would get here before Thanksgiving.
Then last night my mom called from Sam's club and asked if this price sounded the same, I said yep, same as Costco (where I have a membership) and same as the website. Then a light bulb went off- I said, it's the 4500 right? She said nope, the 5000!!!! With the extra dry container at a lower cost as well!!
They bought it for me & are letting me make the monthly payments to them instead!! Woo HOO! By getting it a lower price and saving the shipping costs they saved me over $80 easily. So I won't even have to take 3 months to pay them back, maybe 6 weeks at the longest. The demonstration was only going on till Sunday here- I'm so glad they stopped by Sam's!
I was/am SO excited, I woke up & didn't have a Vita Mix & I went to sleep having one! WOW! And yes, just the little I've done so far shows me it's well worth the money! I got to put a whole entire peeled orange in my smoothie at lunch! Incredible! And my almost 6 yr old finally enjoyed a green smoothie! That alone is worth it!:D

Eva,
Thanks, yes I use maple syrup all the time in recipes. I know it's not raw but I hear there are great benefits to it.

Radiantly Raw,
How exciting for you. I'm envious. Right now I'm thinking of getting the Super 5000 or the newer 5200 model on the Vitamix website. We don't have shows where we live of the Vitamix nor is it at the one Costco we have here. Sounds like a great deal.
Do you find it loud? Do smoothies taste better? I'm curious about the juice option since I love juice. Have you made nut milk with it? Is it pretty smooth after straining?

Eva--thanks for the suggestion on the Broccoli soup. I never would have thought to make it and it would be warm from the vitamix. I however did notice when I made my almond milk that it was warm. Sometimes I just fail to make the connections.
The raw brownies--receipe I got from this site somewhere, but can remember where but here it is:
RP Brownies
1 cup walnuts (unsoaked)
1 cup dates (pitted unsoaked)
1/4 cup cocoa powder (you make use carob if you like)
Place in food processor, and blend until well blended; should still be dry and chunky, approx. 30 seconds. Press into a small springform pan. Refrigerate until you can insert a knife and it isn't too sticky.
Cut into little pieces, then place in plastic baggies and freeze.
They can be eaten fresh from the fidge or from the freezer.
(Note: Sometimes you have to add a teaspoon or so of water so they stick together. You can also form them into balls and then roll them in raw coconut.)
Icing!
2 small ripe avocados
1/2-3/4 cup agave nectar (faw "blue" agave is the best, but is harder to find)
1/4 c raw cacoa powder (or less)
2T coconut oil
1 T alcohol-reee vanilla
dash of sea salt
dash of cinnamon (optional)
banana or strawberry slices for garnih
Place every thing in a Vitamix or high power blender or food processor and blend (on high) until very smooth.
Keep stored in an air tight container in the fridge.
RP's Caramel
1 C dates (pitted and unsoaked)
1/4 c almond milk
1 dash of sea salt
1 tsp vanilla or 1" van bean
1 T raw honey
I put in Vitamix on high until smooth.
These were all very very good.
I don't have a receipe for Turtles, but I was thinking that it couldn't be too hard could it? If anyone has tried I would be interested in knowing how it turned out and the receipe as well

I can hardly believe I own it! I'm still bursting with excitement!!:D I'll have to check on the website about the 5200, I haven't seen that one! My CostCo doesn't carry it normally, they bring them in and do a demonstration twice a year. Actually, it's no louder than my Osterizer blender was, which we all found shocking! We had all heard how loud it was! Guess we had a loud blender all along! LOL! I haven't "juiced" yet, I need to get more produce today! I made Jenna's recipe for her sesame chocolate milk, and it was very smooth after straining! The green smoothies are so smooth I can't believe it! I'm buying almonds today to try almond milk, as I've never been able to even try before!!

Radiantly Raw,
Sounds wonderful. I can't wait to hear how the milk and juice turns out for you. I heard a Blendtec at a raw food gathering a week ago and it was so loud you could hear it in the whole room. So glad to hear it isn't that loud. I currently have a GE one that isn't that loud now (well I'm used to it so don't find it that bad).
