Hello there. This is a question for MC veterans who've used both maple syrup and agave nectar in 20-30 day+ fasts. I've researched some of the threads but I wasn't able to get the answer to my question. I know that maple syrup isn't raw and I'd like to try the raw agave for an upcoming long cleanse.
Did you notice any signficant differences in how you were feeling using the raw agave vs the dark grade b maple syrup?
I'm curious if they contain similar amounts of nutrients and minerals as I was bursting with energy on my last 30 day fast using the maple syrup. I'd like to not mess with this if at all possible if the results vary greatly. :p
Thanks for your input. I appreciate it!

from everything i've read, agave is no more raw than maple syrup.
i did the mc with maple syrup with a lot of success, like you -- energy, etc. i like agave, but unless you have a problem with the maple syrup taste, i don't see a need to switch.

I love the taste of the agave as opposed to the maple syrup. I didn't notice a difference energy wise and have used both. I prefer agave for taste. Good luck! :D

thanks maui butterfly. i've just read that maple syrup is heated and actually i have raw agave nectar that i purchased at my co-op. but i'll just go by taste and not stress over it, which would defeat the point of the fast.
thanks for your feedback.

I like the taste of the agave also. But so glad that you're energy levels weren't impacted! This is the part I love the most about fasting. I'm looking forward to a long cleanse and greater spiritual, physical and mental clarity.
Thanks for the well wishes!

I also heard that originally, the MC was designed to be done with sugarcane juice (raw)... does anyone know if there's any truth in that?

According to the book "Freshly extracted juice from the sugar cane can create an ideal formula".
(Readily available in India but not gennerally in the United States)
10 oz Cane juice
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1/10 tsp cyanne pepper
They also say pure sorghum can be used but it is not as benneficial as the maple syrup.
I have only ever used the maple and it was fine for me but I would be interested in the agave next time around.
For me the bennefits of the master cleanse by far outweigh the taste of the juice. Getting past the SWF is the struggle, but that for another thread maybe? ;)

Well, I'm on my 8th day of a 40 day cleanse and I'm feeling great. http://www.mastercleanser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4677&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
I purchased both raw agave nectar and grade b maple syrup and have been switching it up. I like how the lemonades taste with the agave, not as sweet. But I am noticing a slight difference with my eliminations with the agave. They seem to be lighter and less bountiful. I don't know if this all in my head or not, but it's not making too much of a difference so I will continue using the agave.
I also made the mistake of buying meyers lemons. I used them in the past with no problems. I've discovered from recently reading *Tom Woloshyn's, 'The Complete Master Cleanse' , that they're actually a cross between a true lemon and a mandarin orange (no wonder the juice looks more orange!) and they're not that great to use for the MC. The reason is you're not getting as much of the enzyme and cleansing action as with a true lemon. Anyway, I bought about 20 of them so when I run out I'll purchase some regular lemons. I'm also using limes. The limes mixed with the agave taste divine.
Dann, this is my third cleanse and the SWF does get easier. I drink them warm and with rounded teaspoons of salt. Works within 30 minutes to an hour for me now. I've learned to love the SWF as I know it's helping me feel better throughout the day, without those pesky toxins floating around in my bloodstream.
Peace,
Crystal
*This is a great book by the way. I highly recommend it. Tom studied with Stanley Burroughs and I believe this book expands on the original text and brings it current. I learned some things I didn't know before that are helping me with my present cleanse.

I'm new to raw (late November) and have been experimenting with Alissa's recipes. (Which I love and so does my dh ! )
I figure that the best way for me to get 100% raw, is to do the MC first. I understand that the maple syrup is not raw, but still thought it was the best way for me to get started in order to break some food addictions.
Now I'm questioning that decision, because I'm not sure if I have candida or not. Sometimes I think I do, sometimes I think it's just too much dairy and sugar in the form of complex carbs.
If I do have it, I'm curious to see if I still have symptoms after 10 days (I may go longer). Right now my tongue is so coated!
