View Full Version : Sleeping SO much!

I really am sleeping so much these days. It's annoying.

I have always been one to need a lot of sleep, at least 9 hours to feel awake.

I've been trying to be raw for the past 3 years and have never stuck to it.
So, now I'm trying a new tactic; instead of deciding to BE raw, I'm just focusing on including more rawness into my diet.
So, for the past 2 weeks I'm making sure to have a large amount of fruit and veg juice daily, as well as trying to include sprouts daily.
I've also more or less given up coffee but I still have black tea daily, generally no more than two cups, normally just one.

Other than that, I'm making an effort to not eat junk food, but I'm not restricting myself, because my aim is to BECOME raw through every day choices as opposed to actually deciding to BE raw, if that makes sense. I'm taking it slow, basically, whilst not restricting myself mentally.

Now, for the past two weeks, at least, I have been sleeping SO much, it's ridiculous.
I really don't like the feeling of sleeping my life away, so I keep getting the urge to GO raw 100% which is something I want to avoid. Not the 100% part but the GOING part, i.e. this brings too much obsession for me.

I want to let my body sleep if it needs to but I mean, I'm sleeping at least 10/11 hours a night, but I could actually easily sleep more. I just get up because I, of course, I have things to do, i.e. my job...hurrah!

Well, I dunno what I'm asking of y'all here.

Any opinions on this?

Aside from going high raw, do y'all have any recommendations for needing less sleep? Or hey, what are your thoughts on this? Have you been through the same?
Do you reckon it's detox even though I'm actually not particularly high raw?

Thanks in advance.
This is really something that upsets me as I feel I am sleeping away my life.

First off, let me tell you guys I am NOT a sleeper. I'm the person who is up at 6:30am on Saturday.

Since I gave up all caffeine, I've been able to sleep without my prescription sleep meds which basically allowed me to sleep more than 3-4 hours a night. When I did a short juice fast, I was in bed ready to sleep by 8:00pm.

When I am eating 100% raw, I can sleep 8 hours no problem which feels like I'm sleeping away my life.

Honestly, I think I have been artificially screwing with my sleep which is why I have issues. As long as I'm raw, I sleep very well. If I'm not 100% but drinking (I love me my beer), my sleep goes back into the toilet. If I'm not 100% but still doing a lot of green smoothies and maybe one cooked thing a day-sleep like a baby.

All these words are me telling you that your body is probably taking the time off to do some house cleaning! As long as you're giving it enough good foods, it's going to gobble them up and put them to use. That's my theory, anyway. I don't assume it's permanent because once you've healed yourself, all those good foods go to energy that's not related to sleep!

I agree with lore-ah. Also, now that i have been raw for 2+ months I find that I don't need to go to bed til 11pm. When I first went raw I was needing to go to sleep at 8-9 pm and get up at 6:30. Now I am sleeping from 10 or 11pm til 4 or 5am. I actually don't have tons of energy yet, so I often lay in bed reading before I start my day at 6 or 7, but I am much more RESTED than I ever have been. I do think your body is restoring itself and in time (i'm guessing a month or 2???) you will see a shift in your energy levels.

hth.

Thanks for your input lore-ah,
So, I guess you're at the opposite end of the extreme to me, you have trouble actually getting your body to go to sleep?

I think you're right about the house cleaning.
Also, the fact is that if my body wants this much sleep, by not giving it...well, it's going about it completely the wrong way. I want to be able to survive on less sleep, not just sleep less and be a walking zombie.

I took a look at your blog and saw multiple mention of pineapple. Oh my god, have you tried juicing them?
I made THE best juice the other day; 2 small sweet potatoes, 3 or 4 small apples and about 1/3 of a pineapple.
It's UNBELIEVABLE.
Both the potato and pineapple give the texture of a thin smoothie...seriously good.

Hey, keep going with your blog, I reckon it could really turn into a super good one cos your style of writing is really refreshing.

Zaphirah, I'm so jealous! Those are exactly the kind of hours that I'd like to keep cos I love the night and the morning, I love even more. Thanks, I hope you are right that in a month or 3 I will notice an improvement. Fingers crossed that it's sooner though.

Im constantly tired. I have a long commute to work so I usually wake up at 515 so I can go to the gym before I get ready. Lately I keep resetting my alarm to go off at 6 after waking up at 515 and totally wanting more sleep. I sleep on the train to and from work which is a good 3 hours total. But I dont go to sleep til like 11. I cant switch things about so that I go to bed earlier so I can get up to go to the gym. Bottom line there just arent enough hours in the day:confused:
