On my kitchen counter I have a really nice clear plastic fruit/vegetable bowl with a high fitted clear dome cover that is designed to keep produce fresh. I bought this many years ago and can't seem to find where to purchase additional bowls as they work SO great and my organic produce stays fresh longer. The top dome has a center hole surrounded by a circle of small holes for air circulation. I'd love to get a couple more, but don't know where to get them. Does anyone know what I mean...and where I can get them? Thanks people.:o

You COULD just buy one of those cheap dome lettuce crispers.....and poke your own holes. ;)

Thank you. You're probably right. I would have done that, but luckily I found just what I was looking for. If I'm going to spend the money on organic produce, I just want to keep it fresh as long as possible.

What did you find? Do you have a link? I've been looking for something like that myself.

Hey Beppa---

Does the product in your link keep them fresher longer or just speed the ripening process?

Aurelie--is this the same produce keeper you have? Same question--ripen or keep fresh?

Yes, it's the same thing. It really is designed to ripen fruit. The fruit is consumed/used as it becomes ripe and at this point, I just remove the cover and use it as a fruit bowl. I've actually noticed a difference, especially with organic pears, for instance, which have had to be thrown out when not placed inside this bowl, even after having watched them carefully. I bought it with this intent and it works so well for us, I just bought another one. Another option is just placing the fruit in a plain brown bag. That works, too...LOL.

Yep

Been using the brown paper bags but would much rather display my fruit instead of the bags!!

Maybe that'll be my Christmas present to myself. :)

What a great idea, thanks for posting the link!

For produce that I refrigerate, I've been using Tupperware FridgeSmart Containers. So after farmers market I wash my greens, strawberries, whatever, then put them in the container so they're ready to use when I need them. I'm finding that it really does help extend their freshness.

As a result of reading this thread I looked around my house for something to put my fruit into. I came up with a large clear plastic box with a lid on top. I put my ripening bananas in there with some other fruit yesterday. The top fits pretty well but is not water tight or anything so that it "breathes" but the fit is so close I don't think even a small fruit fly could get in there. I opened the lid on it today to get a banana out and it smelled great ! It was full of the ripening banana gasses and smell. I think this idea is going to work out very nicely. Thanks for the thread and ideas in it :)
