Noo, I can't stand the cold.
I almost burn myself in the shower.
That cannot be healthy.

I like to go back and forth from hot to cold and shock my immune system. Once my roommate and friends came home and I didn't know it while I was in the shower doing that and making weird sounds!

LOL!
i do the hot/cold method as well. its a wonderful detoxifier.
i was reading how the hot water brings toxins to the surface of your skin,
and then the cold water washes it off.
i always have one after skin brushing.
mmm! talk about yummy, tingly, alive feeling skin!

I like taking ice cold baths in the summer. Unfortunately my shower has a rubbish thermostat and you can't even make it go cold!

After reading about a million of those testimonals, I took a cold shower yesterday and today. Not bad at at all, I think I'll make this a regular thing. Definately easier on the skin.

This is a great thread, and it's inspiring me. Thanks for the link to the website. My body feels so invigorated after dry skin brushing, a cold shower on top of it will be great. I used to do Scottish showers (hot/cold), but I got out of the habit. I'm going to try a cold shower tomorrow. The website mentions oiling up with almond oil before the shower. I wonder why. Does anyone know?

yeah the almond oil is prefered because it is very rich in minerals.
You massage your body with the almond oil before you get in the shower. Jump in the shower keep massaging your body I like the deep one this brings the toxins to the surface with the added effect of your body doing the work from the inside by getting your heart racing and your blood pumping.
After about a week of this your skin will look amazing.
Beppa, you're too funny.
I have tried hot and cold showers to rev up my circulation (hot first, then cold, then hot again, then cold)... but wow! About 10 seconds of cold, and I'm a little freaked out!... But maybe if I put oil on first.
And veggieMel... what a great idea to skin brush first, then do this! I already skin brush before showering, so I'm going to try this with just cold water...

Had my 2nd cold shower this morning. Awesome. Never thought I could do it, much less love it. I'm usually a hot shower kind of girl because I am cold all of the time. I found myself wanting to get right back in. I started out room temperature and kept making ot colder.
How long do I need to be in to get the full effect?

I LOVE cold showers!! Whenever I take a shower alone, I usually do a cold rinse - I just slowly go colder and colder til I can't handle it anymore. It's so nice to walk out of the shower and warm up instead of freezing!

Not cold showers but since I was a little girl I have doused my face and neck with ice cold water first thing upon waking up I just cannot get going unless I have done this.
I also rinse my head in cold water at the end of a shower. Love it, makes my curly/wavy hair beautiful - I never ever use a brush!

Interesting thread! I don't think I could do a cold shower. I find being cold physically painful. :o But I will say rinsing my hair in cold water makes it nice! :) Shiney and full.

Just jump in, give it 3-5 mins in fully cold and am quite sure it will be your new thing :)
I thought cold showers were just for single folk who were trying to stay "good"! I am married so I don't need a cold shower! Ha Ha:D
Seriously I don't think I could do it!

I'm with Morn..... I'm cold sitting here in my sweatshirt, t-shirt, socks and thick pants in my heated to 71 degrees home. http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m246/mmarch06/smilies/chilly.gif

Question: The link says "....Shower in cold water until your body temperature rises and no longer feels cold, but toasty and warm." It seems they're saying that, while standing under a stream of cold water, your body heats up. Is that your experience?

ive found alternatiing between hot-cold to be much more enjoyable than the "just cold". i can only stand the cold because i know i can go back to the heat in a minute. i start with hot, do a couple minutes hot, then switch to full blast cold for 30 sec or a minute, then back to hot for a few, then back to cold (easier to stand this second time, and i try to do it for longer and focus on blasting different parts of my body individually with the cold (neck, thyroid area, soles of feet, liver area, lower back, sides, etc), then hot again, then finish with a cold rinse. i like the cold, it feels good, but not on its own without the alternations. you could do more alternations if you have more time (and unlimited free hot water ;) )

Yeah its your bodys natural response.. when the cold hits you, your body starts pumping the blood faster so to heat up.. this caused all the organs to be flushed and casues what they describe as an internal yoga..
You have to stay in the cold water until you feel warm..
It like when you go into the sea, its cold as first but slowly you warm up to it ;)

argh. i usually do the alternating hot cold thing, but yesterday i tried the "stay under the cold until you warm up"... i did it for 5 minutes, full blast cold. i didnt warm up. just froze. i finally turned it back to hot when i felt like i was going to pass out. i started to feel weird in the head. so i guess this didnt work for me..... seems like pushing it to the point where it forces your body to warm up would be the best way to ensure the blood is really moving around. but i couldnt get to that point

are you just standing in the cold water or massaging your body..
I do the massage thing as it helps bring the toxins to the surface..
and by warm up I dont mean its gonna feel like a hot shower.. your body will still be cold but it will be bearable for you..
Each to there own I guess.. I love it...
Tried oil pulling while in a cold shower yesterday and put my face up to the shower.. that was quite strange.. I burst out laughing and all the oil fell out hmph..

I used to do hot/cold alternating water showers a long time ago...usually toward the end (after the shower when your just rinsing and cleansing)...I incorportated this breathing technique I learned a long time ago and you can actually warm up with all cold water running...at least it worked for me... I think it is beneficial for the detoxing. I used to dry brush a long time ago also. I should try to pick these up again... at least on the weekend...

Do you mean that Tibetan yoga breathing technique ”Tummo” used to heat the body in extreme cold climate?
First described outside Tibet by the French Tibet explorer Alexandra David-Neél.
Here is a 3 minutes video clip of the Tibetan heat breathing method. It's in Russian, but I think you can figure out the basic technique. The air temperature is 0 F (-18 C)...

Suggestion for a retroactive New Year's resolution:
