I just bought this fruit(?) the other day..it was so pretty and red. Cut it open, and it kinda looked like a peach with pomegranate type seeds. It didn't taste so good, though. Did I get a bad one, or is that the way they are??

Ive never had one so cant help, sorry. i also had similar experience with a dragon fruit...such an amazing colour outside & interesting looking inside yet just tasted of mildly flavoured water! Was a real let down :(

Are you sure, that sounds like a papaya, I haven't aquired a taste for them. Pomegranets(sp) are red, the seeds are red with white centers, red juicy seeds, oh yeah. I grew up eating them, every fall, since I was little, walking home from school with my friend, red juice all over our faces, chewing up, sucking out the juice and spitting the seed.

Hey! I'm a New Zealander and I've eaten those babies since I was just a young thing. I'm pretty sure you had a bad one! They aren't overly sweet, but they aren't supposed to taste that gosh-darn awful! You can get ones that are pretty sweet, but most of my friends like to eat the ones that aren't.
I hope that made sense, it seemed like a round-about way of describing them!

Thanks, razzleberry! It just looked so darn good, and just didn't taste that great. I was hoping that they were supposed to taste better. I've never had to toss a fruit half eaten in the trash before.:(
I guess that's the price you pay for getting produce from so far away--it's picked so green to make the trip, that most of the taste is lost. I guess I will just have to come to New Zealand some day to have the real thing!;)
