I mean, it isnt really vegan, right?

not vegan in the strict sense, though many consider it 'live' and healthful when it is not processed or heated.

honey kinda makes me nuts for more honey, so I've been avoiding it for agave, which I do not find addictive. I have been using bee pollen though.

No, honey isn't vegan however, Alissa does not discourage the use of it therefore it is accepted on RFT.

If anyone would like to know more about the "whys" as to it being okay here on this forum, please see this lengthy discussion on the issue with both sides presented: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=29555&highlight=vegan+site

Otherwise, those members who wish to post a "yay" or "nay" as to if they consume it NOT if you think it's "right or wrong") ...that's fine but we are not going to turn this thread into yet another argument about honey as seen in the aforementioned, linked-to thread.

Sort of. I don't buy it anymore directly, and I won't buy any bee products, but there are these raw bars that I like that are made with a small amount of honey and I do eat those.

No. But if you feel healthy and responsible....then go for it! :)

No, I don't eat it much. I do have some, but it is way too sweet for me. I use agave nectar instead--it is low glycemic as well. It's a personal choice, IMHO.

Yes, I do enjoy honey from a farm that treats it's bees very respectfully. Honey is good for you, if you can find an ethical bee keeper and it's raw, of course.

We do have wonderful organic bee friendly farmers here... some farmers go so far as to leave areas where the bees like to naturally gather pollen rather than planting those areas... and they have a wonderful -- working and sharing relationship with the bees...

I personally am not too big on sweets -- so for me any honey use is normally in a recipe. So I can get a couple of ounces of honey - and it may last me several months - cuz I so rarely use it.

I don't object to consuming it, but I don't really. It kind grosses me out in the same way that milk does...but it has a UNIQUE flavor, which is useful in alot of things. So while I don't use it ALL THE TIME, if a recipe needs a "honey" flavor...I'll use it. I buy the really hard, thick stuff too. Good organic unprocessed stuff :)

Well I eat it, because although I'm vegetarian for ethical reasons, I gave up eggs and dairy mainly for health reasons, and honey is healthy, so I'll still eat it. Also, its yummy :)

If I had a sweet tooth I would eat honey as I consider it natural and raw (if processed correctly). But I don't have a sweet tooth so I don't buy it. I do buy bee pollen as there is a lady in the valley who does a great job of fresh freezing local bee pollen.

I've gone back and forth on this one, but I have been buying raw honey to use in various recipes. It used to give me a sugar hangup, but it doesn't seem to be doing that any more.

Yep. I love raw honey. I'm facinated at the different flavors depending upon the plants they pollenate. There was an interesting show recently about how commercial bee keepers are experiencing bees dying off in droves...but come to find out not so with organic bee keepers. Yet another reason to buy organic produce...if insects won't eat it, neither should we!

Sure do! I always buy raw honey with bee pollen in it.....it's local and delicious! Although, I don't use it much.....I tend to use agave in lieu of honey for most things.....but yes, I do consume!

I dont eat it cos Im vegan, agave is a good substitute or maple syrup (which isnt raw). Date syrup is also good & sometimes I use the water I soaked the dates in for a more subtle sweetness

Not very often, in the summer I get raw honey from a local Farmer's Market and it is delicious. This summer I didn't even buy any.

In certain recipes when that honey flavor really is required then I use it. I use agave so much now that I forget about using honey!

said that honey was too highly glycemic. She recommended agave and that is what I use instead of maple syrup and honey in recipes...

Anyone who is interested, please check out Alissa's really raw agave! It is the only truly raw one that I know of. Here is the link...
