What do you want to eat? Be true to yourself. If we start to worry about what everyone else thinks of our lifestyle, we will stress out and make ourselves sick. I am sure your boyfriend and his family and your family love you for who you are, not for what you eat:) Now enjoy yourself. Sometimes in life we get so worked up in our minds only to later learn that there was no need to do so.

last Christmas I was just getting into RAW and had dinner at my daughter's in-laws. They're tolerant people, very much from a SAD orientation. I donated things to the meal that I wanted to eat, and no one cared. They were all busy with their own holiday agendae---and we all have them! Another thing--I think it's good to not arrive hungry. Have an avocado or a banana or some papaya avocado pudding (I just whiped some up 5 minutes ago, and it's wonderful!)before you go. That way you can make it through the meal with whatever is there, and get something else when you get home. Really --it's all about learning how to take care of yourself! :)

I always take at least an avocado, and some almonds, I have for years, before
going raw, even. Or I take a basic salad to share and my extra goodies. You could take a nice salad, that way you know it will be what is good for you, and really no one cares what you eat, if they do, it is their problem.

No need for stress! You can BRING your own fruit or salad plate. Or ASK to have a specific fruit or salad plate. If your loved ones won't provide for you....AND won't allow you to bring a healthful dish that you want to share......then I would take my patronage elsewhere! ;)

I have already decided that I'm going to eat turkey/potatoes on Thanksgiving. I know what is going to be on the menu and I'm not going to complicate things. I will start fresh the next day... followed by a fast perhaps? Any takers? It will be my first.

I totally agree that stressing out about it is just as bad for you!! :D

So that's what I'm doing... ;)

Update:
Wow... after reading everyone else's responses I feel like a big fat quitter. Maybe by T-Day I'll think differently.

I won't be eating meat but I may eat a little stuffing and veges. Thanksgiving is very important to my family and it is the only holiday that we celebrate that involves food so I am going to participate for them.

I'm BMOF (bringing my own food). My family is loud and will tease me, call me grass eater or something like that! But I'm prepared, I'm also making a raw chocolate dessert for humbling, mouth shutting, raw sampling opportunities. :D

Ya know what... dont stress it either way... it's thanksgiving... time to be grateful.. joyful, filled with love and laughter...

A time of gratitutude... so how ever the day goes... IT'S ALL GOOD!!

DONT YOU DARE STRESS ABOUT IT! just enjoy every moment of it. Remember -- we are on a journey ... we find our balance and our path --- there are no raw food police that are going to jump out and slap a big huge red NR on your chest... (although I applied for the job but was told there was no such position... imagine that  !!) heheheheheee.... http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/004_110103_heehee_prv.gif

GIRL... YOU JUST HAVE FUN... THIS IS AN ADVENTURE - EAT YOUR DANG TURKEY POTATOES WHATEVER... no stress... no strain... no worries...

be HAPPY!!! enjoy your life and the adventure of this journey... there's always the next day... time to start fresh... it's ALL GOOD....

okay?

for me ... I'm makin my own food wherever we end up eating... only cuz well... IT'S WHAT I WANT TO EAT! but - honeygirl - if I wanted turkey - I would eat it!! and not feel guilty about it -okay?
raw food is supposed to be fun - vibrant - guilt FREE!! its joy, laughter, blessings... to make it 'LAW' or what you 'HAVE' to eat... takes all the joy out of it... then it becomes nothing more than a DIE'it... and this is NO WAY LIKE A DIE'it... this is life, laughter, joy, health... it is an ADVENTURE IN RECLAIMING YOUR LIFE AND HEALTH... making it a chore, or a memory where it was moment of poverty (for the tastebuds) or hardship...

sooo not what this lifestyle is about... ;)

make wise choices... don't stress it... and know that regardless of what you eat - you are still going forward.... claiming your health...

RAWK ON.... BE HAPPY and remember....

My family knows I never really liked meat even as a kid, turkey is too dry for me, chicken is too dry, could never eat white meat as it made my throat constrict anyway. I would have an awful time so my family understands. It will be very tempting as usual, but I have learned (the hard way of course) to eat before I go over to their house (and if they knew this they would freak) so I will stuff myself with avocados, pears, whatever else my little heart desires, then I've learned (the hard way again) to just take all the goodies my mom wants to give to me, thank her very much, tell her how yummy it looks and proceed to give it to all the homeless people I'm surrounded by when I go home. That way everybody is happy. I'm in luck though this year it seems everyone is pretty health conscious and more than likely you will eat a little too much so just take a walk or run that day as well. Everyone is out running. Bring your sneakers and tell all the kids your going for a walk/run and see if they want to go. They will jump at the chance.

I am reading a book by Natalia Rose. I really like how her way of food combining. She suggest if you are going to eat cooked food combine it properly so it will digest easier. She also suggest that you save eating cooked for your last meal. I am going to pick my favorite dish (homemade noodles) which is a starch and eat some dressing which is also a starch and drink a glass of wine. Of course I am going to start out with some raw veggies or a salad that is a given. Then tomarrow it is back to raw. Oh wait I am going to have a piece of pumpkin pie after I have had atleast 3+ hours to digest (food has left my stomach) my Thanksgiving dinner! Have a great holiday!

Fasting is not really a good idea after eating heavy/ sad is it? Someone else please comment. I believe you need to prepare your system for a fast, just eat cleansing/ quick exit foods as Natalia suggests. I do like her concept for how to eat sad or improper food combining.

Lavendula, I believe this is correct that it's best to prepare for a past by eating lots of raw fruits & vegetables, juices, etc.

However, I have to share before my first MC this past May, I was still eating vegetarian/SAD. I knew I'd be going raw after my long cleanse. The day before I fasted I had spicy Thai food which was a complete former addiction, vegetarian pizza with soy cheese, went to my favorite Japanese restaurant and had tons of sushi, ate some of my favorite milk chocolate candies, soy ice cream, had some veggie chips and guac, and drank the last of my soy chocolate milk! Soy, soy, soy! :p It was sort of my last supper, lol. But seriously, I had no problems fasting for 30 days after that and my body was sooooooooo happpppy when I was done cleansing. Especially when I began eating raw foods when I could eat solid food again. Everything is possible, I believe because I set my mind to do the cleanse and eat raw, my body was okay with this wacky last SAD meal agreement. But with all that said, it's probably best to prepare by juicing and eating raw, drinking lots of water, etc. Makes the transition much easier more than likely.

Great idea to deliver the gifted goodies to the homeless and to eat beforehand!

Thanks!

I think most people who are on Raw Foods is nervous about Thanksgiving. My decision was based on me and not what others think. I know for myself, if I do not satisfy my body with Turkey and the trimmings, that I would not be Able to stay raw the rest of the year. Holidays are meant to be celebrations and what better time to celebrate for staying healthy.

I liked when someone mentioned about this was by no means another boring diet that someone will beat you over for eating a little meat for Thanksgiving. I believe it was StarFire, but do not quote me :)

ahh i'm nervous too :( wherever i'll end up at on Thanksgiving i'll make sure i bring a huge salad or smth.... and yet- i live with a host family here in the US who would never understand this food choice (my bf knows and respects though, and my family at home actually joined me on this wonderful journey! so i wish i was there..but well) and i don't care for talking about it, explaining it, even mentioning it (but it'll beocome apparent once i don't eat that turkey! uuuumph).

I'm not too strong and daring- to tell the whole world about my dietary choices, i think i'll just come up with some excuses (getting sick the previous day?) well how pathetic of me  we'll see maybe i'll get the courage...
