Hey Green Smoothie Drinkers!!!
I have a question... I do LOVE Green juice using my juicer, but I want to develop a love of green smoothies. I'm finding that mine are NOT to my liking... They seem "gritty" to me. I guess I'm using too many greens maybe...
ARE YOUR GREEN SMOOTHIES SMOOTH IN CONSISTANCY? WHAT ARE YOU USING AS A BASE? JUST WATER??? What EXACTLY goes into your green smoothies???
O.K...... Here's what I have in my kitchen: Bananas (Fresh and Frozen)
Kale, Collard Greens, Celery, Frozen Mango, Frozen Blueberries, Fresh Pears, 1 Grapefruit, Agave Nectar, Dates, Lemon, Lime, 1 Apple, Avacado, Almond Milk, Water...
What do you think would be a nice combination to put together right now??? I'm standing by over my blender waiting for you!!!
Thanks!!!

Do you have a good high speed blender?
I'm not promoting the vitamix (or other blenders of that ilk), but I know before I got mine, my regular blender made gritty smoothies that I felt I was choking down. Once I got a vitamix, the smoothies have been smooth regardless of the ingredients.
But besides the blender...bananas and avacados help smooth out the green concoctions very nicely.
I know that's not very helpful...sorry!

Yea, I don't have a Vitamix!!! I want on, though!!! All I have is a Regular blender!!! Should I not use Greens (other than Avacado) with a Regular blender???

Here is what I add to my green smoothies:
romaine lettuce, baby spinach, 1 orange, and 2 bananas.
I don't have a vitamix, but an old Waring 7-speed blender.
I have to blend everything for a bit longer, but my smoothies come out great:D.

Hey Rhazula... Does the 1 orange provide all of the "juice" you need for the blender? It sounds like it might be pretty "gritty" ... Do you use water too???

Oops, I knew I forgot to add something:eek:.
I use 2 1/2 cups of water (always purified).

yum, that sounds good too!
don't use as many stems (from the collards or kale), and blend longer, and that should cut down on the grit too.....

this morning I made a green smoothie with coconut water, spiniach, and pineapple (the fruit and a little of the juice) and mmmmmmmm was it good! It was a little 'gritty' I guess cause I have a regular blender but I think if you just keep blending it or get a high powered one it might make a difference?
anyway, I'm going out to the store tonight to get more pineapple.. I'm all out!
it was very tropical tasting.. I should have added some coconut meat to it as well.. mmm!
I'm trying to vary my greens so I added romaine to the spinach and fruits this morning. How do you guys handle romaine? Everyone talks about adding it to smoothies. It's so GREEN! Yuk. Spinach is so mild. I can't imagine collards!

YOU GUYS ARE THE ABSOLUTE **** B E S T **** !!!!!!!!!!
My Smoothie is SOOOOOOOO GREAT!!!! It's better than GOOD!!!! O.K.... NOW I see what all of the fuss is about!!!!
Adding the water AND mixing it for a longer period of time, without the stem, worked WONDERS!!!! I just drank a whole glass full and still have some left!!!! Do you guys store yours in the fridge???
Here's what I put in my 2nd one.... Romaine, Spinach, 2 bananas, and mango.. When I get some oranges, I'll try that with it...
I can't thank you all enough!!!! I AM A GREEN SMOOTHIE BELIEVER, YAU'LL!!!!!!!! :D
Hey ReneeH, just curious. Where do you live?

I keep left overs in the fridge, but try to drink them within a day or two.
And I've also found that if I add a lot of citrus, I try to drink it all that day. There seems to be a reaction with the greens and the citric acid that makes it bitter if it is stored too long....just my experience.
I am a true believer in green smoothies!
I love when other people find them delicious too!! :D
